On July 26th both gentlemen came to Trouw together for the first time and gave us an amazing set filled with primitive house, post-punk, dub, krautrock, disco and new beat. This is the rare internet-only Real-Audio 'teaser' mix that preluded the launch of the Rotters Golf Club site in Sept. 1999.

Streaming was pretty poor back then, so sound quality is a little lacking (lossy, squelchy, artifacts etc) , but get past that and it's a great and rare downtempo/ambient electronic mix from Andrew Weatherall, considering he was going for it with the electro/machine/funk by around that point. 

I don't know ANY of the tunes on this, so any help IDing them would be cool. Enjoy!

Before even touching on his nineteen albums, thirty or so EPs and singles plus more than two hundred and fifty remixes we should hark back to the early days of acid house when he worked with Danny Rampling at the legendary Shoom Club and with Terry Farley on the Boys Own Fanzine which morphed into the label that released the first records by Underworld and Chemical Brothers.

This week’s guest on Fade to Sunset by Ana Fernandez is none other than Paris-born, Tokyo-raised, Berlin-based DJ, music producer and world-famous label owner, Alex from Tokyo

Co-producing under the name Tokyo Black Star he has released original material on the Berlin-based labelInnervisions, as well as on the label Reincarnation by Italian tastemakers Slam Jam, Kerri Chandler’s label Basemental and has remixed for such legendary artists Tony Allen, & Carl Craig. Alex is one of the resident DJs at Berlin’s infamous Cocktail d'amore and for the Aquarian Shift party at club OHM. 
The world famous label relaunched digitally and physically from Berlin in the Fall 2019. Be on the lookout for new original music, compilation projects and collaborations by Alex as well as some new Tokyo Black Star projects in 2021!

First Light - Christmas 2020

So I've been digging through some boxes and discovered a load of mixtapes from the mid-90s.

As there was no internet these we're only shared amongst my close friends and re-recorded and passed around, so only available to a few. So it's now great to be able to share them to a wider global audience.

I was still living in Highlands of Scotland, when I recorded this particular mix - over 25 years ago. However, as you'll hear, I was heavily influenced by that great music that was coming out of the US (and UK) with that deep house sound.
