About the cd:
A superb surprise episode for 041 in the series. Massive thanks to Nick Sneddon for sending over some epic CDs recently. We are really happy to feature more downtempo CDs... it feels like the recovery soundtrack to countless nights clubbing and those sun kissed days that followed (well maybe not so much if you grew up in the UK).

Considering this came out in 1996, it features some simply gorgeous deep house and laid back electronic which go onto cement why DJ Harvey is a cult dj amongst fans and fellow spinners. It's a pleasure not just remember my own collection, but have other people send in theirs. And it's even better discovering that there's hundreds of other classics out there which need to be shared with everyone. Thanks again for the good vibes.

In July 2010, I got an invitation to play at a small but neat festival named Folk Ibiza. It was my first visit to the island. I got to spin at a bunch of different locations, such as the Hostal Boutique Salinas, Sunset Ashram, and on the terrace at Space. I returned in September of the following year to play a set on Andy Wilson's show on Ibiza Sonica and a second time at the Hostal. I have not been back to Ibiza since. I recently came across this picture (taken at Cala Compte next to Sunset Ashram), which inspired me to make this mix. I tried to sonically capture the vibe that I felt back then. It includes some bona fide classics such as Ashra "Oasis“, Santana "Aqua Marine," and Jah Wobble & Holger Czukay "Hold On To Your Dreams," as well as tunes by Smith & Mudd, Begin, Quiet Village and more. Phonica mix 124 is a truly special edition from not just one of London's finest collectors and selectors but one of our long time regulars; Nick The Record. 
Not only has Nick been a loyal friend of our shop in the years we have been open, he has also been one of the driving forces behind the London scene for nearly 30 years. Dealing records professionally to some of the biggest DJs in the world over the years as well as running several labels including his most recent outing Natural House - his knowledge in disco and house is impecible. He has displayed this in his vast deeply thought out sets over the years be it performing the closing set at some of Japan's best underground festivals or at his long running night Tangent with friend John Gomez, he is a definition of a digger. We had a chat with Nick about the mix and what he has coming up, even if we had to hold his flight to Japan for a couple of minutes!

A duo that needs no introduction, Matthias Reiling and Hauke Freer, both great producers in their own right, are even better together as two man house band @SessionVictim. The Hamburg and Berlin-based best friends have been making music together for about a decade but have known each other for the past twenty years.

Notorious sample diggers, the two are able to craft brand new musicals gems with ideas stemming from cratefuls of records which include genres such as soul, funk, disco, jazz & various others. Locking themselves in the studio for days at a time, they are able to consistently come up with infectious dancefloor groovers. With all of that time spent digging for records, it's no wonder that they are phenomenal behind the decks as well, bringing an unparalleled, contagious vibe with them wherever they go.

With two widely successful albums under their belt, Matthias and Hauke have been hard at work on their anticipated third LP. If you've caught them live at any point this year then you have likely heard snippets of what's to come. For the time being though, we're glad to settle for their current Matching Half EP out on Delusions of Grandeur as well as their upcoming solo contributions on XK Records.
