"This is the cover of one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists, On The Beach by Neil Young. When i first heard that song, i felt like i could have or should have written it. The lyrics are so dark and beautiful, they relate to the slightly autistic part that a lot of artists are hiding and the artist condition in general. But I'm no Neil Young when it comes to song-writing, so instead of trying to write something as good, I decided to make a cover, twist that blues tune and turn it into something completely different and (much to my surprise) even darker, to the point where most people don't even recognize the original song." This year at Burning Man we were gifted an incredible opportunity by our friend The Festival Guy to perform a secret set at Camp Ego Trip as Daft Punk - complete with helmets and all! We had 45mins to put our spin on things and somehow managed to keep it a total secret this entire time. Easily one of the coolest experiences we've had after 3 years at the Burn and being DP fans for as long as we can remember. Big love to our funk brotha GRiZ for rocking live Sax with us at the very end. Enjoy :)

It's now exactly three years since John Martyn died, so I thought I'd stick this one up for download. I did this edit when the One World deluxe edition came out in 2004 (BTW, if you don't have this edition, it's absolutely essential, it's got a bunch of unreleased stuff on it, plus stuff like Dealer Version that have never been on CD before; one of the best reissues ever in my book). I kept it to the dark and groovy parts and just extended those. RIP John

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Motown, the iconic record label launched in 1959 in Detroit, Michigan by Berry Gordy Jr., Carhartt WIP will release a thirteen-piece capsule collection in the coming weeks. The collaboration honors a label that reshaped the sound of American pop music, diversifying its airwaves in the process. 

To mark the collection launch, we reached out to Detroit native Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann and asked him to prepare a strictly Motown music Carhartt WIP Radio show, that displays his personal love for the label.
 
As Moodymann is not man for hasty reactions, he delivered a detailed mix featuring rare b-sides, interviews and live recordings by Motown artists like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Wonder, Kem and Dazz Band. Asked about his very own feelings towards his mix, Kenny Dixon Jr. simply says: “No matter where I‘m standing it’s good to hear home sometimes. These songs are woven into the soundtrack of my own personal movie.”  There is nothing more to add, only: enjoy the ride!

Anatoly Zorin recontextualizes Poroh - the title track off beennooutside's album on RAW RUSSIAN, to great effect. 

Set at a much faster pace than the original, the remix features arpeggiated synths and saturated kicks, accompanied by an increasing hi hat progression, making it ideal for the dancefloor.
