Once upon a time, in a paradise far away, a beautiful love story had begun. It was like a fairy tale, and "A Little Bit Of Honey" is a poetic expression of love and the transformative power it holds. The song lyrics describe the journey of two lovers who find solace and happiness in each other's presence. It portrays the uncertainty and longing that come with falling in love, as well as the joy and strength that love brings. At times, when faced with difficulty in articulating their emotions, individuals in love may question if they have truly found their ideal partner of whom but, the lyrics also highlight the importance of communication and understanding in a relationship and the impact that love has on one's life. Accordingly, from the Bakongo language in the Congo, expresses life as a cycle in which people deserve a special celebration dedicated to all mothers. Within that space, people should no longer hate each other. Instead, they should embrace in a mutual respect regardless of race, sex or social status. BaMama Lunikuna therefore strives to affirm that, we all need each other to sustain a consoling world. More so, restoring joy among mothers leads to the renovation of fathers’ confidence and the well being of cheerful children.

“The Kingdom for Love” represents the key engine able to fulfil and solve the despair and problems people face across diverse societies. Thus, Marius defines life as the status a person sustains after all infirmities. For example, a person’s smile from the heart can be derived from artistic portrayals presented by other actors in life. This represents an expression of love without boarders and conditions. Thus, in “The Kingdom for Love” Marius invites Ulrika for a special dedication to affirm there is hope. Consequently, he asserts hope ought to be recognized as an essential factor among men and women residing in the Universe of Ya Nzongo.

From my move from the Congo to Sweden, I encountered a very nice friend couple, divorced from one another, but were still living in the same house at time, because their children were still young. After few months through life tense experiences, they wasn't able to keep living that way, as one day the wife wondered whether they would be fine to give it another chance. As a witness, I just wanted to share this experience out from my withdraw to share with people the essence of life through my songwriting process, while portraying some top movements of life experience.

My intention:  Tribes In Mind attempts to apply the seductive polyphonic singing from Forest People sometimes referred to as the ‘Pygmies’ into Jazz progression and backing vocals, while centring the question of Home – one of the essential interrogation we face today in relation to social issues. My intention here is to blend Tribes In Mind with celebration of togetherness, while attempting to address daily cries into care, acceptance and joy for all social actors in the world. - Marius Billgobenson

With “Tribes In Mind” Marius gets autobiographical, discussing his own journey from the Congo to being a man of the world that will forever remember his roots. The song opens with the stirring lines: He moved abroad from home/Carrying away his tribes in mind/And never got returned from there/Filled with tears on the ground/The tales of his Home and crazy longing/Never change your world in mind. The song is a joyful expression that recalls the gorgeous piano pop of Norah Jones and Alicia Keys. “This song is about sharing the stars when you’re going through a nighttime in life verses sharing the darkness. I want to bring people a fire of joy with this song,” Marius says.

Marius Billgobenson creates world music in the truest sense of the phrase. The sounds of Africa are fused with jazz instrumentation and other world influences, and expressed in music from the heart. Native beliefs and customs are intertwined with memories and life experience and the result is a groovy musical tapestry, giving voice to many indigenous peoples. 

Growing up amongst the sounds of the Congo River Basin, Marius’ own musicianship was fostered in guitar lessons from the missionaries of the former Swedish mission station in Ingoumina (Zanaga) where he was raised, and soon developed into creating music of his own.

Working as an anthropologist, ethnomusicologist, and musician, Marius has dedicated his life and his music to bridging communities. Through his work as the director of Afrique Profonde, a non-profit organization striving to preserve the traditional culture and human rights of Pygmies in the Republic of Congo and the Congo Basin Rainforest, he has been able to achieve comprehensive archival research as well as programs in eco-tourism, artist residency, and advocacy, also establishing successful communications between governments, NGOs, and international communities.

Marius’ eagerly awaited debut album, The Sum of My Pardon, is set for release later this year under the moniker Billgobenson, and he intends to promote both the music and awareness of indigenous rights as he tours it through Europe, Africa and the US. The album fosters connections between communities across social and cultural barriers by creating musical tours to Congo Brazzaville, facilitating exchanges between musicians based in the west and people of the Pygmy tribe. 

From folk country blues through afro-beat, this album will tell a powerful story of contrast, purity, and harmony. The Sum of My Pardon exists as an expression of passion for indigenous culture, and draws inspiration and a beautiful metaphor from the social and musical harmony of the polyphonic singing of the Pygmies. 

The music of Billgobenson makes us face what we stand to lose in the silence of indigenous peoples, the custodians of significant alternative knowledge about both music and life.
