The Quodlibet is a piece of music created by contrapuntual unification of various other melodies, liberally altered, usually carefree, popular and lively in character.
The vast repertoire of Mozart for horn notwithstanding, there is not much for the other brass instruments (with the notable exception of the solo for second trombone in his Requiem in D minor).
With love and humor we have altered and united some of the Wolfgang’s eternal motives and melodies, regretting that the Master seems to have had little interest in the trumpet, trombone or tuba (we cannot fault him for this last one… it didn’t exist at the time).

The title  Ein Symphonischer Spass (A Symphonic Joke) refers to Mozart’s famous and bizarre  Ein Musikalischer Spass, a Divertimento composed shortly after his father’s death.
This “Symphony” is composed of four movements, in each of which, wile still respecting the classical forms, the quintet has some fun playing with motives of various great composers of the past, from Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann, to Mendelssohn Debussy, Bernstein and many others.

While Benny Golson, with his moving  I Remember Clifford remembered the great trumpet player Clifford Brown, with  I Remember Igor I was thinking of the wonderfully sardonic Igor Stravisnky.
Here there are many original brass passages to quote and to play with. I think that in every measure there is at least one, beginning with Le Sacre du primtemps, ending with Pulcinella while touching, along the way, Petruška, Le Rossignol and the famous march form Histoire du soldat, played over a twelve bar blues.

Once an excellent pianist, former colleague of mine, while reading trough a Bach’s score, exclaimed: “Hey, he does things the way we do!”.
It may be the other way around, but in any case J. S. Bach’s music is special and universal.
JSB is a jazz oriented mixture of the second movement of Bach’s Suite n°3 in D major for orchestra and his Partita n°3 in E major for solo violin.
