After a short break due to a few scheduling issues, we are super excited to continue the series and present the 78th podcast featuring a good fixing of 4x4 groove-laden power from Palma!

Palma is a producer and DJ based in Lisbon (Portugal) focusing on fast-paced techno rhythms. His approach to production is simple but effective, resulting in straightforward dance-floor oriented tracks.
His sound is heavily influenced by earlier techno productions while also maintaining a contemporary feel. Some of his works have gathered early support from established names such as Setaoc Mass, Rene Wise and MARRØN.

Red Rooms (Dominik) started producing electronic music and DJing back in 2003 on his first pair of Reloop turntables his father gifted to him on his 16th birthday. Since that day it was all about electronic music. On his almost 20 year long musical journey he played and produced various electronic genres which influence his sound to the present day. In 2017 Red Rooms came to life with a clear focus on minimalistic, hypnotic, groovy, sometimes trippy techno inspired by tracks and sets from artists such as Rodhad, Exium, Dasha Rush, Truncate, TWR72 just to name a few. With several releases under his belt on labels such as Aesir, Drawner and Planet Rhythm, Red Rooms is one to watch.

Before that, she focused for a few years on music curation, writing various press releases, interviewing artists, and in recent times she is also appearing behind the decks in multiple clubs. Her sound, also represented in her productions, is characterized by deep rhythms and blurry vocals which she is recording herself! In this podcast, she showcases her selection and vision as an artist to the last detail.

She began her musical journey throughout her childhood, traveling through many genres, before discovering electronic music when she moved to the UK over a decade ago. She has been mostly focused on this ever since, never losing sight of digging as a form of inspiration. Yuri’s passion for the electronic music scene began already in Barcelona from a young age where he found his place in a new community. Mostly being precent as a photographer his motivation to mix started from an ‘’inside feeling of sharing what it feel needs to be shared in the moment that needs to be shared“ and he wanted to give more to the techno community. Now he is living in Berlin where he expanded his knowledge of music. Yuri is co founder of the parties X concept by Room Trax where he is also resident DJ and brings all the creative direction of the brand. For him multidisciplinary is super important because besides of Dj, he is mainly an artist, curator and founder of YF Agency (agency of content creation and visual artists for the electronic music scene.)

MALöR Podcast 034 - Metapattern

While the term „binär“ (engl.: binary) always had a clear meaning in itself, there are nuances depending on how it is applied.

In short, it stands for duality. Anything that’s binär can be broken down into two parts. One element is followed by the other. Our digital world is founded on Binärcodes, the predecessors to our computers, smartphones et cetera ran on 0s and 1s.

Applied to music, most of electronic music is binär. It builds up slowly, one element is followed by the next, a hi-hat comes, a synth is replaced with quietness, which is followed by bass.

And while this formula works for most of the spectrum, it’s not limited to one genre in particular. The label called BINÄR is founded on this idea of terminology.

Yet, in society, it stands for the idea of binary genders - male and female - this might be the most popular definition of the word binär. We believe there’s more to it, and as the Binärsystem works, it could also emphasise the cultural shift we’re currently in - ideas of society get updated by something new, something broader, something more welcoming, open, non-binär.
