First track for my frog game in a while! A peaceful city theme, one of two hubs in the game. 

I'm challenging myself to make the sound of these pieces unique compared to my other work. My main goals are:
- Don't use piano. At all. Piano is my main instrument, and I find I rely on it too heavily in many pieces.
- Limit instrumentation based on in-game culture. Themes based around the culture in this piece are brass focused and do not use any violin-family instruments. The other main culture will be exactly the opposite; hopefully I'll have something to show for that soon.
- Limit ensemble size. It's easy for things to snowball and for me to go really HUGE with the sound. I'm trying to keep a focus on solo instruments, world percussion, and nature sounds. There are some tracks (such as boss battles) where a large sound will probably be unavoidable, but I'll tackle that as I get there.

Hmm, anything else? I love with these new brass samples; very warm and laid back. Getting a lot of mileage out of them. I've been futzing around with this track for a few months now, and am glad that it's finally to the point where I can share it.

I've got some friends helping me with this project, so it's helping me get off my butt and write more stuff. George and Alex, you rock!

I think the feeling of this track is like a crisp glass of water in the summer evening sun.

May change the track title at some point, as the setting names are still in flux.

Been playing around with this track for the past month and finally got it where it deserves to be; I think this ensemble and mix style is going to be the new standard for the game going forward. I'll probably update the previous tracks I've posted at some point in the future.

I can't remember ever being more pleased with a track, tbh. Laid back and rich, with a simple hook and a nice, 2 minute loop. What more could I ask for from a Nintendo-style VGM?

I've also tweaked the "ruleset" I've been writing with for this project to keep the sound unique and in-concept. My current rules are:
     - NO piano. None! It's my native instrument, my favorite instrument, and my fallback instrument. I'm keeping pianos firmly away from this score.
     - Soloists, not ensembles. The world of a poison dart frog is both tiny and vast. Sticking to soloists and small ensembles (with a healthy dose of reverb) really conveys the scale that I want the player to feel a part of.
     - Initially I was avoiding as many western instruments as possible, but  found it to be overly limiting. Instead, I've removed specific western instruments from a typical orchestral ensemble and replaced them with meso-American and South American instruments. Non-reed woodwinds have all been replaced with panpipes, ocarinas, and various wooden carved flutes. More replacements may follow.
     - Include sounds of nature! If you listen closely, you can hear crickets chirping along to the tune in this track. In others, you might hear frogs calling or owls hooting! Who knows what animals may appear next... >_>

Dewdrops (Meso-Amphibian Original Soundtrack)

Another new track for Meso-Amphibian! This is an incidental track that will play during certain dialogues, especially introducing quests. There will be a few of these "interludes" with different feelings depending on the context of the scene.

I wrote this in one sitting over a couple of hours, which is pretty unusual for me; I'll often stew on a track for months before posting. This piece is a bit more innocuous than other ones I've posted, but I kind of like it for that.

I was inspired by the Ace Attorney games for this particular track. I've been playing through the series for the first time and am struck by how much their BGM can affect even the tone of text-based dialogue. Hopefully I've been able to capture some of that here.
