Fantastic Man has become one of the most exciting and revered producers on the circuit having released music on the likes of Mule, Love on the Rocks and Kitjen. He is also the founder of Superconscious Records alongside Griffin James.

As a DJ his musical taste is broad and wide ranging, drawing upon far reaching influences from the realm of House, Trance, Downtempo, Balearic and beyond. As such you never quite know what you are going to get but that's all part of the fun right?

Most recently he has been dabbling in a fast paced, new age approach to House and Trance - channeling the free spirited energy of the 90's and a sun kissed era for dance music.

Some might feel it to be nostalgic but he is very much at the forefront of a new wave of producers and DJ's looking to breathe life into and reinvigorate the sound.

This mixtape is one of the best we've heard in a while and is rightly suited to a Friday.

Fantastic Man: The Ransom Note Mix

Whenever you listen to a Dazion (@thedazion) DJ set or new club track, you can hear how much fun he has with his music. The Hague man likes it rough and ready whether making bleep techno, acid breaks or new beat with whatever bit of forgotten hardware he can find. He's done so on labels including Second Circle, Safe Trip and Animals Dancing and always manages to capture the essence of what made the rave days so glorious while updating it with his own leftfield character. Next up for him is Grooveboxxx, a new album on Dekmantel that pays homage to The Hague’s 80s and 90s club scene all made with just one bit of "entry-level gear," the Roland MC-303 Groovebox.

Dazion opens this week's mix with a custom introduction inspired by the old Turn up the Bass TV spots and takes in some jams on that same MC-303 and a serval rips from early 90s rave CDs. It starts rather dreamy and serene before cracking up through the gears to get more weird. High energy rhythms, flailing percussive patterns and bulbous basslines all make for a helluva ride.

Tech Support always finds a groove in everything he touches. Be that through his DJ sets, mixes or his own productions, there's a rhythmic fluidity and depth that always guides his way.

He never confines himself to one sound or style but there's a distinct nod to the 80s in his influences and output; be assured you'll find lashings of Italo, vintage darkwave, euphoric house and slo mo chug when he's behind the decks or laying it down in the studio.

His work rate as a producer has been on the up over the last few years. If he's not sharing his solo work, which has formed releases for Nocturne, Together Alone, Futureboogie, Silver Bear and, most recently Ano Ano, he's crafting his own self-released edits and reworks of legendary new beat, new wave and Italo Disco tracks like 'Burning Down The House', 'Je Suit Passee' and 'Drop The Deal'. Lately he's been making music under another alias, Asa Tate, with a track penned for this year's Rhythm Section SHOUTS compilation.

Eden Burns is a DJ and producer hailing from the deep south of Aotearoa/New Zealand. As a teenager, he connected with the world of dance music via scuffed tech-house records in dollar bins and a DVD rip of Paris Is Burning. Drawing on these inspirations, his early productions hit a sweet spot between wide-eyed weirdness and club-ready maximalism. His first outings, back then as part of the duo „Sandboards“ on Feel My Bicep and Cold Tonic, soon led him from the Taieri Plains to clubs and stages worldwide. 

Now trading under his own name, Eden’s vividly colourful productions have found a home on Munich’s multi facetted outlet Public Possession. Together they initiated the Big Beat Manifesto series currently standing at Volume IV with number V & VI already lined up for a what will hopefully be a bright 2022 full of dancing and prancing.

Just to make sure it does not get boring he throws in oddball releases like the ambient excursion “Kelly” or remixes for acclaimed labels like “Optimo” and “Beats in Space”. His productions have gained support from Solomun, Jennifer Cardini, Jamie Tiller, Gerd Janson, Avalon Emerson, Adam Port and more. 

Much like the music he makes, Eden’s DJ sets are reverent and wildly fun, the product of an innately curious talent. Whether in the booth at Rinse FM or NTS, or in front of crowds in London, Dunedin, or Japan, Eden has a habit of weaving sets that are rich and unpredictable, interspersing phases of driving momentum with joyful curveballs and blissful reveries — moments that feel like turning the corner on a precipice and suddenly seeing ocean.

LAYER #318 | Eden Burns

Bristol-based DJ and producer Jamie Paton has been at it for almost 15 years. Starting out as one half of Cage & Aviary - a duo alongside pal George Hoyle who charted releases for DFA, Internasjonal and Dissident - Jamie went on to carve out his own path; one lined with heady, tripped out sounds to move the mind and the body.

Since going solo his music has does the rounds on some of our favourite labels, we're talking Höga Nord, Emotional Especial and the dearly departed Bahnsteig 23.

There's plenty more in the works too. In between his other job as a graphic designer, Jamie's been in the studio cooking up more potent electronics, some of which will soon see the light of day on ESP Institute and Multi Culti, along with another fresh project in collaboration with R$N extended family member, Chez De Milo.

Ahead of all that good stuff in the pipeline, we asked Jamie to supply a mix for us, a task he graciously accepted. Across two hours he takes us down a wormhole of hypnotic electronics, leftfield synth excursions and trippy rhythms. Let yourself get lost....
