Andrea Belfi - "Natura Morta" out november 7th on Miasmah.

Natura Morta, "dead nature" or "still life". This album can be understood as a powerful study of the minute details of the art of electro-acoustic composition, as much as the Renaissance "nature morte" were a masterful display of the artist’s skill in portraying the glow of a ripe fruit, or capturing the light beaming on a vacant chair.

Six tracks, to be listened to as two long explorations in the art of variation and repetition. Layers of drums and percussions intertwine with synth waves making the portrait come to life, detail after detail, until a complex figure emerges from the white canvas. The constant, unsteady sounds, wavering noise, swirling cymbals, and distant feedback gently pull the listener into the picture, letting them enjoy every detail of this beautifully staged compositions.

Recorded at EMS studio, Stockholm, ZKM in Karlsruhe and at the legendary Funkhaus in Berlin, this album mixes influences from both Italian minimalism and the electro-acoustic contemporary scene. Somewhere in between the electronics of Keith Fullerton Whitman, the percussive repetitions of Jon Mueller, and the atmospheric sensibility of Pan-American.

Andrea Belfi - Roteano

Born out of mere chance performance, the new collaborative record between Abul Mogard and Rafael Anton Irisarri is almost an inevitable outcome of their long-lived sonic relationship, and yet I’m still excited and jumping up with glee. It’s not often that I witness two of my favourite musicians come together to create something very special, so when they do, I approach it with a deep appreciation and focused regard. I’ve sung high praises for these two alone throughout the early years of their very successful musical careers: Raf, of course, and his 2009 debut on Miasmah (which I’m still listening to, by the way, as well as The Sight Below output), along with his continuous friendship and support, as well as partnership in curating Headphone Commute’s For Ukraine compilation; and Guido, whom I detected to be an amazing synthesist [rather than a retired factory worker from Belgrade] very early on, and who became an inspiration for my own modular journey and then, again, a friend. Search these pages, and you will discover plenty of coverage [written by a genuine human, may I add – should I use that tagline instead of “honest words on honest music”?]. So yes, I am all over this amazing piece [slightly shortened for this “premiere” feature], which is taken from their upcoming two-long-playing-track release on Irisarri’s own Black Knoll Editions, recorded between London, Rome and New York [the second piece is taken from their live performance at Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque in Madrid].

Samuel van Dijk is an electronic music producer, sound designer and media artist from the Netherlands, having released electronic music under a variety of projects, namely, Mohlao and VC-118A. With his current project Multicast Dynamics he creates ever-evolving sound textures culminating in intriguing soundscapes while preserving a tranquil cinematic atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from nature, technology, film and fiction, his music productions, live sets and audiovisual work presents a carefully arranged, recorded and processed body of work, using a vast amount of layered sound textures, field recordings and live improvisation. In May 2015, Denovali Records released the first two albums of a four part series by Multicast Dynamics, conceptually linked by our undeniable connection with nature and its wide range of landscapes, colors and movement. Now the third album called SCANDINAVIA follows in October 2015??.  The album series moves from an evolutionary to a cosmological scale: Starting from dry land filled with light and streams, to the constantly changing surfaces of the oceans, into a frozen and murky underwater world, finally up to the arrival in an interstellar space and the cosmos. With this concept Multicast Dynamics explores organic and aqueous worlds in a dreamlike and spiritual appearance.

SCANDINAVIA is the third installment in the four part series. Assembled during the coldest season, it’s an album full of contemplative electronic recordings, created by the use of granular synthesis, obscure delay units and rudimentary looping techniques on magnetic tape. Recorded with a longsighted outlook, SCANDINAVIA features washes of subdued tones and textures as well as melancholic and warm sounding pulses of noise - all characterized by distinctive aquatic features. Steadily flowing, but slowly awakening the album draws frozen remote landscapes ranging from dark, cold and desolated to melting, warm and hope.
SCANDINAVIA opens with a bleak arctic environment in deep hibernation, where echoes of glacial bursts cut the silence. An undulating mass of viscous ambience sends out blurred out signals through the storm. In this inhospitable surrounding of frost and ice slow changes appear. The form of the landscapes alters and the cold air no longer hinders the breathing. Slowly meltwater seeps out underneath thick layers of ice, slowly building up in momentum and space. Layers of hypnotic atmospheres with barely perceptible undercurrents, brooding pulses of bass and tonal patterns lead to the core of the sonic landscape. Gently radiant layers of light and soil emerge and aquatic echoes expose new paths. The water is harnessed. Preparations for a long journey have begun.

We have a gift from one of the most interesting artists of the contemporary Russian dub-techno scene, a surprise release from Heavenchord «Reshapes». 
The reason for the creation of this release was the tracks that are deeply settled in the soul of the author. 
Showing his vision for these tracks through musical experiments, music was continued in different electronic genres. However, while listening to «Reshapes» is felt deep the author's love for dub-techno sound, this is the whole Heavenchord. In the release there are a lot of prolonged, long tracks, this is the time when the author had to haunt his mind, switch to some moments of life to better convey what is happening inside him. 
We want to thank the author and our friend Arthur for the perfect opportunity to release significant for him release on our label. Heavenchord «Reshapes» you can download in the best quality absolutely free on our Bandcamp.

‘And We Are Passing Through Silently’ is the sublime first survey of reworks by cult synthesist, Abul Mogard. 

Rounding up divine renderings of songs by Aïsha Devi, Penelope Trappes (The Golden Filter) and nick nicely (heralded by luminaries of the US underground Ariel Pink & John Maus), the album culminates with Brian Eno’s collaboration with Irish avant-folk band Fovea Hex. 

Also included is Abul’s brand new rework of Becoming Animal’s ‘The Sky Is Ever Falling’ which you can hear here, starring vocals from Cinder (This Mortal Coil/Cindytalk) and Massimo Pupillo on bass (Zu/Thurston Moore/Stephen O' Malley), exclusive to the 2LP, CD and digital release. Houndstooth have long been admirers of Abul Mogard’s beautifully stately, romantic melancholia for the best part of this decade. 

By most measures, Abul Mogard and his music are among electronic music’s most perplexing and revered quantities. Abul emerged in 2012 with an eponymous (and now sought after) cassette release for Steve Moore’s VCO. 

Unfurling Aïsha Devi into acres of imaginary space with ‘O.M.A.’ and transforming Penelope Trappes’ ‘Carry Me’ into a 12 minute organ meditation, Abul amplifies the emotions of each song while only making them feel more elusive in the process. It’s an approach which yields stunning results in the widescreen reframing of Cinder on ‘The Sky Is ever Falling’, and in his breathtaking, slow-mo explosion of Brian Eno’s Choral vocals for Fovea Hex, while the bruised soul and lysergic greys of his nick nicely rework, beautifully demonstrates the heart-wrenching grasp of harmonic distortion that everyone craves in Abul’s work. 

Leading on from Abul Mogard’s ‘Above All Dreams’ album in 2018 for Not Waving’s Ecstatic, and following veiled live appearances across Europe, ‘And We Are Passing Through Silently’ offers another tantalising window onto one of modern synth music’s rarest spirits.
