Album: Through The Gate (2012/2013)

Just a quick warning, once you get passed the (intended) vinyl noise and cheesy instrument, you'll find some genuine BioStorm drum and bass! The whole track is a small story in total again...a journey of sound, many ingredients and variations. 

The concept was basically: make some happy uplifting drum and bass. Decided to start with a known pattern, but using different instruments in the percussion though. Also wanted to blend in some vocals, since I had already written the "lyrics". No singer around, so decided to go vocoder on that mother! :]

Spent quite some time extending, improving and cleaning it. So my production motto of "monthly discipline" is down to a "quiet quarter" instead. But hey, at least we're having fun right?! Hope you'll dig what I've tried to do here.

Take Me Higher

The initial concept of this one: using narrator styled vocals. Like you know from channels as Discovery or National Geographic. Avoiding copyright issues constructing my own of course.

But while doing this, several things coming together. Was also playing around with some guitar like synths. Wanted to put in a throbbing bassline. Adding electro house sounds and bleeps. A solid percussion pattern. Well, the usual in today's EDM you could say :)

Needless to say: it all becoming something very BioStorm in the end of course! This one is for Mother Earth! :)

Photosynthesis

Once again, the BioStorm was up for some dark atmosphere, kicking kicks, bursts and breaks. This one is for the hard electronic lovers.

This horror inspired track was completely custom made. Meaning: getting to know my own equipment a bit more. And getting the most out of my synths, samplers and effects.

Even used an old toypiano our family used to play with some decades ago. It seemed to fit :) It's long, loud and hope you like this story about the woods! This fairy tale might not end well!

The Woods

As a kid, owning a MSX2 homecomputer, I always wanted to make music with it. But I didn't have a music-chip and keyboard for it. I never bought those. But a few months back, I decided to search for and get them!.

Did that mainly because I was looking for 8bit sounds to use in a track. A few weeks ago, I got to it. Picking sounds, sampling them and using them in a very familiar way. Even though it sounds familiar, I composed the whole thing myself.

So, have a listen. You can say a lot, but it is NOT depressing :p Go ahead and save the castle! ;)

Save The Castle

Using the sounds less in the familiar gaming way, and more like an actual warm dub track, this is what came out. Something completely different and half the bpm.

8-bit Dub

My study on the art of drum and bass continued! Hoping to find a better way of mixing my electronic background with some genuine dnb percussion.

Meaning using known elements from the genre and bringing them together in a BioStorm way. Aiming for contrast by using a high bell and a more rough guitar sound. Adding vocal and synth for atmosphere of course :)

It was not until the end that it reminded me of some kinda "Atlantic Ocean 'Waterfall' On Speed" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrCMDZiQSMY). But either way: enjoying myself and hopefully others with this track.


Trust Me

A few years ago, BioStorm was all about dark suspense in tracks. To be honest, found it difficult to create something less worried, let's say: happy.

So, I am probably evolving, growing. Because this track is an electro house inspired track with a playful vibe to it. Containing almost funky elements! :)

Obvious are the electro drumset and bassline. But also went a bit further with the vocoder stuff this time. Learning a bit more every time!

4 On The Floor

Back in the dubstep flow this time. With a few particular BioStorm twists as ingredients, meaning original custom sounds. Here is 'Ghosts'!

You'll probably also recognize some BioStorm tension combined with the lower pace dubstep is known for. Tried to put in the power anyway, we can all make fast tracks right?! :)

Enjoyed the process with this one because it went quite smoothly. Looking for sounds, finding the proper arrangement and adjusting levels to my liking. See what you think! 


Ghosts

Whether it's tekno, hardcore or just noisy, either way: here's my latest project! Kicks, snares, 303 in effect and...a special break.

After 2 minutes, if you make it that far :), let a nice dose of contrast surprise you with some classical piano influences I came up with.

Always going for an hybrid approach of things, it's BioStorm all the way! Would say it's at least "interesting". Check it out!



Distorted Robotlove

Obviously aiming at the drum and bass style with this one. Containing the usual multi-rate wobble, deep bass stabs and synths. But also soaked with techy synths and bleeps. 

In that sense this track can also be considered an electronic hybrid. The main cause being my old skool techno house background, but not in the least the 'machinery' I like to use. Speaking of which, it was also a great oppertunity to test - and understand - two new devices I picked up along the way.

The vocals were inspired by some horror gaming (Resident Evil 4) to be honest but recorded myself. And the fictional dialog is my own. The atmosphere is mainly inspired by some horror soundtracks I saw (no pun intended) this period. And let's be honest: it's no happy song! :)

Los Illuminados

This track started out as a quick concept I made while I was making other tracks at the time. In the beginning I had piano, the obvious hardstyle kick and the high synth pattern. Soon after, adding the filtered break, horns and violins. Also came up with some shout-outs (but did not record them yet).

In the meantime I was aiming for the hoover-sound in some other side-project. That sound has been used many times before in history, but it's so freakin' cool, just had to make one myself! Since I succeeded, decided to put it in this track - in several ways.

Have been tweaking it for a while now. And today it's time for sharing! Have a listen and let me know what you think. Thanks!



Powerpump

This track started by experimentation with a progressive house beat. Adding the trancy lead and bleeps soon made it into a trancy variant. 

Initially it was meant to become a track with vocals. Tried to set up something with enough space for that. But because of the ravy - almost goa - nature of the track, decided to keep it instrumental.

Once I had a two minute version, it was clear the basis was solid. Just needed some more nuances in the arrangement and implemented an extra buildup.

Beach Beat

This one is all about the following. More vocals. More stereo. More transitions. More EDM. More BioStorm.

Determined to reach some kinda 'next level'. So tried something new compared to my previous productions. Not using my own vocals this time! Decided to team up with a female vocalist. This was quite the challenge, but I must say: paying off. Learned a lot. 

The concept was not just to make a vocal progressive trancy house EDM track. But also to make it hot and steamy. Judge for yourself ;)

Dreaming

Here's a celebration of all electronic sounds I'd say. BioStorm is bringing the eclectic electronic vibe once again! 

This time disguised as a dubstep track. Not the easy-goin' type dubstep, but the epic noisy hyper type with a lot of tension! A quite dark #EDM-track, hence the title. 

Have put in quite the selection of instruments. From beats to bleeps. Almost an #hoover-overdose! Oh, and tried a bit more functional panning than before.

So, here is some fresh eclectic dubstep noise for your ears! The next BioStorm EDM-track with signature sauce all over it! ;)

Infection

BioStorm is always inspired by the old and the new styles around him. Ever since hearing the first 303 acid dripping tracks in 1988, he travelled through time via house, techno, trance, hardcore, drum and bass, dubstep, hiphop and pop. At the age of 18 was selling his moped to buy a sampler instead the right move because. Because decades later he's still at it, working from The Netherlands, which is an actual country in Western Europa :) His philosophy is: electronic dance music DOES have a soul and comes in many forms. BioStorm is not about one style, but one universal language.
