Here's a set of track I made in the Drum & Bass and Dubstep style.  Has my own signature though, so might sound a bit different. But hey, that's what we're here for!

Drum, Bass, Dub and Step

Earlier this year it was a style I had not in my collection yet. Inspired by the drum and bass sound. Spinning it my way of course. And for the first time trying to make a video-clip for a track.

The video was recorded in Ubbergen on a location called the 'Devil's Hill'. Thought that would be appropriate ;) In the year 1000 A.D. there was a castle on top of it made of wood. Also sparking imagination.

About the track. I had been working with sampled breakbeats a while, the same goes for techno-sounds and basslines. But this time I tried to use as little samples as possible, making the patterns myself. Curious where it would bring the track.

Soon I had the sound I wanted, but over time the track grew into the energetic uptempo track I had in mind. I decided to release this version here, realizing the game of creation is one of patience :)

Hystery Hill - Including YouTube Video

Just a quick warning, once you get passed the (intended) vinyl noise and cheesy instrument, you'll find some genuine BioStorm drum and bass! The whole track is a small story in total again...a journey of sound, many ingredients and variations. 

The concept was basically: make some happy uplifting drum and bass. Decided to start with a known pattern, but using different instruments in the percussion though. Also wanted to blend in some vocals, since I had already written the "lyrics". No singer around, so decided to go vocoder on that mother! :]

Spent quite some time extending, improving and cleaning it. So my production motto of "monthly discipline" is down to a "quiet quarter" instead. But hey, at least we're having fun right?! Hope you'll dig what I've tried to do here.

Take Me Higher

Once again time for some drum & bass violence! One of the styles BioStorm's loyal to. Intentionally many different influences all over this track though.

Making tracks never starts the same way. This one did by starting with the suspense intro, but soon enough the spacey synth and filthy wobbles would find their place.

Being a big fan of whining sounds and breakbeats, couldn't leave them out of course. And even though I already had written the vocals, added them last.

Equation

Here it is, the dubstep experiment I have been working on for quite some time now. Spent more time on it than planned because of some setbacks in the process. Did not give up on the concept though! :)

I call it an experiment because I was aiming for a few things I was not sure I could accomplish. In the end I think I did catch the easy going atmosphere, laid back alarm and melody I was looking for. Hard to prove that statement of course ;)

The track seems to fit the sunnier times ahead this spring. Providing me some closure too. Have a listen if you like, and take it slow! :)

Take It Slow

Uptempo industrial experimental drum & bass with a slight claustrofobic taste to it :p

Started with an eerie sound and an industrial snare. Went from there. Synths, basses, custom made vocals and perc, the works.

Sum Of All Fears

Presenting a dubstep showcase with lots of variation from rough to funky and even happy! Join me on an adventure into the mind of BioStorm! 

First I made up the title in this case, being related to the number -theme of BioStorm album "F0ur". Then the vocals and atmosphere came. Soon added the cheesy organ. Percussion and tempo becoming dubsteppy.

The entire time longing for some 8bit flavours and growls and sweeps, so I added more and more. Quite the process, but I am pleased with what it became. At some point you have to let go. Hope you'll enjoy!



Count Dracula

UPDATE: Demo (post October 30th)
Replaced the sneakpreview with a 5 minute version. Consider this the final edit! 
Have spent a lot of time on problems with the timing of the wobble, drifting starting points etc. Learned a lot, later on decided to sample bits and pieces to fix that. Made most sounds myself.

Here is a sneakpreview of my latest creation. Not finished yet, it was simply time to share, so hereby!
It has an obvious drum & bass dubstep flavour to it. Why still in progress? Because rush jobs are not allowed in my homestudio :)

Hyper (Final Edit)

So, here's another drum & bass track, finally, again! ;)An uptempo track with some 8-bit inspiration and crazy sounds.

This time started with a distorted guitar sound in a melody. From that went playing with FX, timestretches and wobbles. But also some violins, choir and brass for dramatic effect.

8-bit Countdown

Back in the year 2013 - yes that is a long time ago... - I started this track. Obviously trap music, with a snap, heavy 808 kick, snare bursts etc. Left it alone for a while then.

Picked it up last December! Doing so, it soon became exotic, using lofi and hifi brass. On top of that I found a catchy electro bass in a homemade custom synth I always wanted to use (the Fatman). That sound is used in many ways here.

From brass came more brass :)But the track also needed some distorted kicks and synths I figured, so added a 909 kick and a Juno polysynth. 

Oh, and there's some vocal work too! Had to write something "fitting". Listen to it and let me know what you think! Comments, shares and downloads are very welcome. TIA!

Number One

During my eternal search for cool vocals, I once more deciced to make my own, see the lyrics below.

Being a big fan of dark uptempo breakbeats I decided to go drum and bass on this one. Meaning: crazy atmospheres, synths and basses.

Calculated Risk

As the name suggests a track inspired by the mystic element of aliens, the "secret" base Area 51 and quite a lot of styles. It really feels like an original BioStorm track! Meaning the easiest part was making the concept in the beginning :)

Also a lot of cleaning and improving along the way.  Probably altered the track for about 12 times, or at least parts of it. I had a very clear concept in my mind, the challenge was getting it out! :)

Do think I succeeded myself. The atmosphere I was going for is there. Used some new sound sources to my liking. And well, it's almost cinematic storytelling. Check it out!

Area 51

This can very well be described as a guitar inspired track. Some sounds have so much character you have to use them. These guitar sounds sure had this effect on me.

Can't say it enough, crossover is not a bad thing. And there should not be any taboos when looking for instruments to use. Quite the opposite for me in this case. Wanted to use guitar sounds and organs for a while in some drum & bass thingie.

So here it is. Have accomplished what I was aiming at. But hey, let me know what you think after hearing it! ;)

The Elements

My study on the art of drum and bass continued! Hoping to find a better way of mixing my electronic background with some genuine dnb percussion.

Meaning using known elements from the genre and bringing them together in a BioStorm way. Aiming for contrast by using a high bell and a more rough guitar sound. Adding vocal and synth for atmosphere of course :)

It was not until the end that it reminded me of some kinda "Atlantic Ocean 'Waterfall' On Speed" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrCMDZiQSMY). But either way: enjoying myself and hopefully others with this track.


Trust Me

This is something else. I'd like to think the creative process was interesting. 

Without an actual plan I started with the melody of strings on a hiphop-tempo. All quite harmless. After that came the scratch. Soon I decided to add the guitar, working that out in layers. Of course, this already gave the track a dark flavour. And this was *before* I started recording the dark voices. 

Considering it was the first time I was recording my own vocal samples, I was content with the result of the vocals: it's all me! Adding breakbeats and more percussion were the last steps. The end result being a kinda heavy, dark, dragging and strange track. Well, judge for yourself!

In The Dark

Back in the dubstep flow this time. With a few particular BioStorm twists as ingredients, meaning original custom sounds. Here is 'Ghosts'!

You'll probably also recognize some BioStorm tension combined with the lower pace dubstep is known for. Tried to put in the power anyway, we can all make fast tracks right?! :)

Enjoyed the process with this one because it went quite smoothly. Looking for sounds, finding the proper arrangement and adjusting levels to my liking. See what you think! 


Ghosts

Obviously aiming at the drum and bass style with this one. Containing the usual multi-rate wobble, deep bass stabs and synths. But also soaked with techy synths and bleeps. 

In that sense this track can also be considered an electronic hybrid. The main cause being my old skool techno house background, but not in the least the 'machinery' I like to use. Speaking of which, it was also a great oppertunity to test - and understand - two new devices I picked up along the way.

The vocals were inspired by some horror gaming (Resident Evil 4) to be honest but recorded myself. And the fictional dialog is my own. The atmosphere is mainly inspired by some horror soundtracks I saw (no pun intended) this period. And let's be honest: it's no happy song! :)

Los Illuminados

Here's a celebration of all electronic sounds I'd say. BioStorm is bringing the eclectic electronic vibe once again! 

This time disguised as a dubstep track. Not the easy-goin' type dubstep, but the epic noisy hyper type with a lot of tension! A quite dark #EDM-track, hence the title. 

Have put in quite the selection of instruments. From beats to bleeps. Almost an #hoover-overdose! Oh, and tried a bit more functional panning than before.

So, here is some fresh eclectic dubstep noise for your ears! The next BioStorm EDM-track with signature sauce all over it! ;)

Infection

BioStorm is always inspired by the old and the new styles around him. Ever since hearing the first 303 acid dripping tracks in 1988, he travelled through time via house, techno, trance, hardcore, drum and bass, dubstep, hiphop and pop. At the age of 18 was selling his moped to buy a sampler instead the right move because. Because decades later he's still at it, working from The Netherlands, which is an actual country in Western Europa :) His philosophy is: electronic dance music DOES have a soul and comes in many forms. BioStorm is not about one style, but one universal language.
