The sounds at the beginning were all recorded in my bedroom from various objects (i.e drawer slamming, tapping a glass with a sharpie etc.) which I really only did because I thought it sounded cool, but in retrospect it actually adds a lot to the personal nature of the song." - Matt

The lyrics and the lone guitar in the beginning serve as a sort of re-set button after the upbeat, carefree tone of About the Author to adjust the listener to a more serious mindset. The lyrics give way to a massive instrumental outro to drive home the message that this album has some depth and emotion to it and that the best is yet to come."

"Haunted House is our proudest collaboration as a band. Everything from lyrics to drum beats was very much a team effort and we all had a lot to say before we all felt like it was in a place where we were each happy with the outcome. Haunted House is one of those songs that anyone who has been through a messy relationship can relate to. All the ordinary things that used to just "be" now hold extraordinary, sometimes excruciating meaning. Haunted House is as much about holding on as it is letting go."

"Write in Pencil is a song that addresses the idea that there are times when we don't feel equipped with our full selves. As a result we feel insufficient or incapable of maintaining the life and relationships that we have established for ourselves. "Fairly Honest is a song written about embracing the past, even when that past may be embarrassing. It's cocky and yet self-deprecating with elements of hip-hop and rap incorporated throughout."

"4am (originally Midnight Madness) is a love story. It takes place in the cockpit of a car in the middle of the night as two kids embark on an adventure to the city. It captures the mood and the feel of falling in love while driving on an empty road with nothing but your companion to keep you company. This song was inspired by a poem written by my girlfriend about a night that we both attribute to the moment we began to fall in love."
