DJ Harley Beretta's guest mix on this episode is totally sick. Harley is really blowing up with appearances on the SiriusXM channels of Pitbull and Eminem. For us to have her do guest mixes is special as her take on Progressive House music one again adds flavor and uniqueness. Her world-class scratching and blends sound so dope intertwined in Prog. Check her expertise displayed as she adds raw flash when she feels it and lays low to the let the music make its natural impact when necessary. This is elite Progressive House presented in an all-new thrilling, almost experimental way. We're not implying that Progressive House music has to have this type of sound, we're just elated to show that it so wonderfully can. 

I had the honor of curating these tracks for Harley and she made magic. The scratching at timecode (03:12)on Bee Hunter is legendary.  I'll put Harley's scratching in that spot up against any DJ in any genre of music out right now. The blend into "Clumsy" is delicious. And for the second straight episode she goes head-to-head with the genius that is Avoure with her insanely on-beat scratching. You have to hear it to believe it.  

The blend into "Cascade" is smooth AF. That song sounds so good in this mix too. Her momentum increases but the blends and scratching stay impeccable thru the incredible songs "Slowbot.exe" and "Holler." Next the hard-driving incredible songs by Deeparture, Findike and Kamilo Sanclemente & Zalvador are straight power moves.

The song "LGBT" was an exciting find and it really helped bridge the in-the-mix switch to more traditional and beautiful Melodic Progressive House tracks from Druce/Emro, Lumidelic, Jay Hubbard and Eleve. Harley took us out with some amazing work on the thumping beats of Vihannga and Operandum.

DJ Harley Beretta returned to Bird's Ear View for another spectacular guest mix. Harley out and out destroyed!! Our guest Anthony Merrill Smith is a world-class voice actor. His impressions are  so amazing and will dazzle you. It was also great to be joined on-air by our outstanding in-studio producer and sound engineer Josh Wilcox of the Brooklyn Podcasting Studio in NYC.  

Yes I'm KarenFromPhilly-- and I write the show in my hometown--but I record in NYC because the production skill level is so strong and I can get the right sound I crave so much.

Hilarious Voice Actor Anthony Merrill Smith was incredible on this episode. His impressions are bananas on-point. Anthony crushed his arsenal of subjects and hearing that brilliance  mixed in with the great Progressive House music playing at the same time is almost orgasmic.  I can't really explain it but check out the episode for some ill shit you wont hear anywhere else. 

I curated the music of course and I take that responsibility extremely serious.  I found the best 16 jams possible. Most of them are new but I do whatever it takes to cultivate a memorable listening experience for you and me. No wasted or wack tracks, just a complete appreciation of your time spent listening. Yes it's been a while since our last episode but this works out because my theory is "Live It. Own It. Write It." I have to absorb myself fully as a journalist and fan into Progressive House music, the artists who create it, the DJs who showcase it, and other fans just like you that love it.  That's what we do for the best show possible.  It's all about building a connection to you that is authentic and pure. If you're listening to this show I want you to feel like we're friends hanging out discussing this music and jamming out to it. 

DJ Harley Beretta is back for this episode. She is an emerging star and this is her 3rd outstanding mix for us. It sounds so amazing. Harley is experimental and creative in her approach and we work well together because so am I. We have uniqueness in the music we play and words we say.  There is no show in the world like Bird's Ear View.

Josh Wilcox is an extremely talented in-studio producer and joins me in the 2nd hour for a very cool in-depth discussion about Progressive House,  Underground Dance Music and the world of being a DJ.

Bird's Ear View - Ep. 6 "Goodbye EDM" (DJ Harley Beretta Guest Mix) [Progressive House]

We come flying out the chute which is what we like to do energy-wise. Harley sets the tone right away with her cool drops. This is DJ Harley Beretta's third mix for Bird's Ear View and just like the others it is outstanding, innovative and experimental. On the first track "Code 9" I especially love the subtle, single thick scratch at timecode [3:21]. 

Harley is known as "The Blend Queen" and the transition into the Goda Brother track is scintillating. It's always an honor to curate mixes for Harley. But I present a challenge to her in that I give her songs with all different BPMs and vibes.  She does an amazing job turning it into a melded masterpiece.  Her scratch blend into "Ruh" at timecode [10:48] was sick. Bringing the vocals from the middle of the track into the intro is a classic example of her insane creativity and experimentation. It's top studio level remixing.

The blend at [18:18] into "We Form" is bananas, love the Yaz drop at [18:32] and the scratching at [19:04] is world-class. Then at [24;53] she brings in the beautiful "Kalla" so creatively. Harley's sense of timing is off the chain. Listen to her scratching and then radio drop hit a post at [27:32]. 

Knowing when to lay low and let some tracks breathe is a skill in itself-- especially for a quick hands, quick-thinking DJ like Harley Beretta. And after letting the music shine for a couple tracks she re-enters with a vengeance on the world's sickest blend/scratch from "East Views" by Emro into "Devotion" by Discognition at [42:08]. It's the lovely vibe of two beautiful tracks getting the royal treatment.

Excellent ensuing blends connect the gorgeous melodic tracks "Music" by Bodai & Crew, "Misty Memory" by Xenioxe, "Three Sisters"  by Grim Avenue, and "Valhalla" by Joe Schaeffer & Ciree.  We always end strong with  interesting beats-- and Harley does "Artwork n.1" by Miro great justice.  Her ferocious scratching at [1:09:38] is so triumphant and on beat.  It's a highlight, Top 5 type moment. You'll love this incredible mix by DJ Harley Beretta and likely listen many times to fully appreciate it. Here is the incredible "without commentary" mix by UK DJ MickeyTheMoocher of my episode for The Parent Trip that debuted globally on Vault Radio September 7, 2022.  

Mickey is one of the classiest dudes on the underground scene and a great DJ. It was actually his idea for me to do an episode of The Parent Trip.  This was a true collaboration between Mickey and me.  He didn't just segue some random oldies I gave him. These were tracks I selected primarily from my parents' music collection that hold massive significance in my life. They are special to me and he mixed them accordingly. Mickey also selected all the outstanding interludes and music beds which gave me opportunities to go through my on-air music therapy segments on the full episode. 

I love Mickey. I always thought he was great but once we collabed on this project and I saw how much thought he put into the musical direction and presentation I was so touched. This project is probably the most important creative endeavor I've ever undertaken, so for him to be so on point means everything to me.  

I sincerely hope you come to love this mix as much as I have. Listening to it  gives you a lot of time to process things going on in your life good and bad. But I truly believe after you've listened to it your head will be in a great place. So you can also utilize it many times in an effort to be nice to yourself time and time again.

Wow...what an incredible opportunity to host an episode of The Parent Trip. It truly was a journey of music therapy as I explored my youth and family experiences primarily thru the music of my parents' vinyl collection.

The Parent Trip airs the first Wednesday monthly on the global station Vault Radio.  The show is based on a mix concept developed  by DJ MOM. There's no set format. Basically a DJ-- or anybody-- digs thru their parents' music collection and picks tracks that were influential to them on the come up. But the mix or presentation can be creatively scoped out by the individual. Doing this is so therapeutic. There are no rules. It can be all music or you can add commentary as I chose to do. The show can be a sad or happy experience or a mix of many emotions.  

I was fortunate to collaborate here with the wonderful UK DJ MickeyTheMoocher. He was able to expertly interpret my music selections and added some extraordinary music beds of his own choosing to facilitate my spoken parts.

I'm not going to go into the subject matter discussed on the episode in this show description. It's amazing but I feel you are best served hearing it fresh for your own thoughts, reflections and interpretations.

#MixClub for Vault Radio: DJ Mark Farina Guest Mix of Feb. 15, 2023

Please enjoy this incredible mix by DJ Mighty Mi, which features his original Rap & House mash-ups. He calls the mix “Hip-House 2023.”  

It was epic to have DJ Mighty Mi spin an episode of MixClub on Vault-radio.com for the May 3, 2023 episode. He is of course best known as a member and DJ of the highly-respected hip-hop duo The High & Mighty.  

Comprised of Mighty and rapper Mr. Eon, they released the rap hit “B-Boy Document ’99” with Mos Def & Mad Skillz. Over the course of their careers they collabed with greats such as Eminem & Kool Keith, and toured with Run-DMC. Later they formed the popular group “Smut Peddlers” with Cage.

A cool aspect of Mighty Mi’s career is his personal and professional evolution from his Philly, Boston & NYC roots to Las Vegas, where he is now based. During the explosion of EDM’s popularity there,  he soon enjoyed residencies and gigs playing in top casino clubs while sharing stages with the world’s best-known superstar DJ’s. 

Mighty Mi  is co-founder of the legendary indie label Eastern Conference Records and currently has a show on Sirius XM the first Thursday every month on Diplo’s Revolution called Then & Now.

#MixClub for Vault Radio: DJ Mighty Mi

Man you've got to evolve in this music. Especially when it's something you can feel inside. Hi I'm KarenFromPhilly and It wasn't an easy or safe decision for me to pursue a new DJ  for Episode 7 of Bird's Ear View, After all, Harley Beretta is a unbelievable talent and crushed it for us the last three episodes. Plus our listeners love Harley. Hell I love Harley.

But as a Progressive House devotee, I wanted a different sound for this episode. I had only one DJ in mind. It had to be UK DJ Andy Skinner (of WeGetLiftedRadio.com & many other great global stations). He's the first and only DJ I asked. And when he said yes I was so grateful. Truth is I've long admired Andy's work, and I always knew one day we would collab. And this is a true collab. Like all previous episodes I curated most of the tracks. But Andy had total creative freedom in his mix, nixed some of my selections and also sequenced the tracks to his liking. A DJ has to really trust you to perform tracks supplied to him. I mean, this isn't a wedding gig and I'm not the bride's mother-in-law. But Andy said something real cool to put me at ease right away. He said it's not uncommon for a DJ to have to spin a set of pre-selected tracks for mixing a label promo, so he equated this project with that vibe.

But Andy owns this mix. It is a work of art. An unforgettable listening experience.  Like I said he had total creative freedom. And this manifested itself in a collection of outstanding blends.  Our listeners have come to expect the finest blends in Progressive House music and Andy kept up the tradition big-time. One after the other, Andy's blends soar in exquisite fashion. I love the story he created too with his track sequencing here. It's so clear he gets what Bird's Ear View is all about.  In plain speak he told me he knew how much these tracks mean to me and then went out and gave me his all in the mix. Continuing the show's tradition of collaborating with the finest in Guest DJs, we introduce Andy Skinner to our audience. Andy is a global radio pro but better yet it's his unique vision and depth in mixing Progressive House music that made him such an attractive DJ for our show.  Our previous Guest DJ Harley Beretta did 3 phenomenal efforts for Bird's Ear View, so Andy had tough shoes to fill. Well he came through and put his own impressive stamp on the show by unleashing an array of world-class blends. This was a true collab also in that Andy sequenced Karen's tracks to his liking and comfort level.

Here we celebrate the finest Progressive House, Deep House, Trance & EDM of 2023. SoundCloud asks you for a main hashtag and all I could think of to sum up this unique mix show is "Sophisticated."  The tracks are so amazing and the talent of the Producers & DJs who created them is off the hook. Then you have the truly outstanding job here by Host & DJ MickeyTheMoocher. Plus I got off writing the script and vibe I wanted to create and you know my track curation is legendary of course.

Yet it was the rap group Public Enemy who warned:

"Now the bitch is in trouble
'Cause she thinks she's so-phisticated" 

But let's face it, this project is as advertised. Mickey's hosting skills took a star turn here as he expertly knew when to pipe in and out of the tracks. And in his  DJ role Mickey crushed. KarenFromPhilly has an interesting career spanning 40+ years in newspapers, magazines, stand-up comedy, radio, podcasting and now House Music & related Underground Dance Music genres.  

Currently Karen is writer/host of the blazing Progressive House music show "Bird's Ear View" and Co-Executive Producer of the weekly mix show "MixClub" on DeepSpaceRadio.com. 

Her career began in the 1980s as morning show producer/air personality "Pistol Pete" for highly-rated Philadelphia radio station Power 99fm. In the 1990s, Karen evolved as a popular columnist known as "The Rap Bandit" for major mainstream international magazines "The Source" and Vibe." This led to being profiled in "GQ" magazine. 

From 2003-2013, as "Danny Ozark" she was a fan-favorite stand-up comedian, and regular radio guest on the highly rated "Kidd Chris Show" on WYSP in the Philadelphia area.  

In 2017 Karen began a highly -acclaimed and unique 35-episode podcast about her then obsession for NYC-comedian Joe Matarese called "Monumental Waste of Time."  That led to regular contributions on the internationally-beloved show RedBar. She also hosted the unofficial Redbar post show wrap-up called "Talking Red."  

From 2021-2023 Karen served as Co-Executive Producer for two programs on Vault Radio -- "MixClub and "The Parent Trip"

Karen appeared twice on "The History of Howard Stern" anthology (SiriusXM). She also performed stand-up twice on the "Opie & Anthony Show."  Other credits include appearances on the smash-documentary trilogy "An Inconvenient Goof," writing for the Philadelphia Inquirer and "Hip-Hop Honeys," being cited in the Philadelphia Daily News, Washington Post, St-Louis Post-Dispatch and Village Voice. Performances at Helium & Laff House comedy clubs in Philly as well as the Eastville Comedy Club in NYC.  Guest appearances include regular spots on "Wide Men Can't Jump" and "The Passive Aggressive Hour," plus being featured on an episode of comedian/author Mike Rainey's interview show "Rainey Sundays." 

Karen has worked very hard to make an impact and inspire/entertain people through her creativity.  She has finally found her true-calling as a writer, personality and fan in House & Underground Dance Music.
