BBC Introducing/Fresh On The Net Top Tracks 2016

Relentless Delight with its pulsating, dark drum sound, combined with Cajsa Siik’s characteristic powerful and at the same time fragile vocals invites you to join an evocative world. It is produced by Cajsa together with Calle Ekerstam and Rolf Klinth (Tiger Lou etc), as is the subsequent full length album “Contra” released in the fall 2014.

Relentless Delight

Cajsa Siik is a Swedish artist hailing all the way from Stockholm. Her music has already been included in various American shows, such as Criminal Minds, The Michael J Fox Show, Awkward, Degrassi and Ravenswood. She has also recently teamed up with Tiger Lou’s producers Rolf Klinth and Calle Ekerstam, in order to work on and co-produce her latest album Contra, which got support from the likes of NME, Clash, Vice, Indie Shuffle, The Line of Best Fit, USA Today and numerous blogs around the world, as well as making it into the playlists of BBC6 Music, BBC2 and Amazing Radio.

The "Contra" album is a great example of bringing the essence of art-pop to its full notion and restlessness. Cajsa Siik knows exactly how to remain sonically insatiable whilst still giving her listeners a solid foothold. Her soft vocals are a clear contrast to the enigmatic and textured arrangements. They fit perfectly with the minimalistic orchestration that supports her every word from the very first bar. 

"Follow You Down" is the first out of three completely new singles released this spring, and it has previously been heard in Criminal Minds and as a bonus track on the Noisey/Vice premiere stream of "Contra".

Change Of Heart

On the thin line between euphoria and bottomless darkness Leo Skywell found what’s now turned into his debut single: “Leisure/Desperation”, a three-minute pop gem written during an unplanned visit to Nepal. Spending day after day on the southern slopes of Himalaya, far away from music, wifi and other distractions, the song took shape – at the same time brutally slaying and unconditionally praising nightlife surrounding him in hometown Gothenburg, Sweden.

Skywell, who just turned 20 years old, started his career as jazz guitarist. He was introduced to a wider audience this past summer with a 20 date solo tour through Sweden, Denmark and Germany.

“Leisure/Desperation” was recorded at Svenska Grammofonstudion in Gothenburg and is the first release in a forthcoming, long term, collaboration between Birds Records and CLSSN Musik.

Sweden's Honeymilk has been around for 4 years but just recently scaled down to a duo (from a previous four piece). We all have our ups and downs and the story of how the two main figures Marcus Admund and Nikki Nyberg hold on to each other since meeting in a scout cabin back in 2009 is one full of fighting spirit and love for the music they're creating. 

At the moment they're in studio working on the follow up to critically acclaimed 2013 debut "Lean on The Sun" (and 2014's "Sanguine Skies EP"). Their shoegazy Britpop has gained supporters all over the world - notable ones are KEXP, Q Magazine, Jajaja Music and Music Week. 

In June 2016 their latest effort "Time Will Kill You" soon turned into their most succesful single to this date - with playlists adds and media ravings flowing in to the HQ. The band play a sold out show at The Finsbury in London and the single soon hit 140k+ streams on Spotify.

"'The Nothing New' could be about finding yourself in an age and situation where the demands that hunts you are increasing; the same that it takes more alcohol to get drunk, it takes greater and greater everyday explosions for the static line that life has gradually turned into to be moved. It could also be a pretentious and unclear salute to both Samuel Beckett's book Murphy or Spacemen 3. Or it could be a very good pop song that means nothing."
