Sound In Silence proudly announces the addition of JARR to its roster of artists, presenting their new album Talking About X.

JARR is a collaborative project between British ambient guitarists Yellow6 and Wodwo.
Jon Attwood started Yellow6 as a solo guitar project in the late 90s, initially inspired by space/post-rock, electronica and reverb soundscapes. From his debut single on the Enraptured label, Attwood’s discography runs to over 150 releases, spanning a wide spectrum of atmospheric post-rock and minimalist ambient music. Throughout Attwood’s illustrious career, his music has featured on The John Peel Show and Resonance FM, has provided the soundtrack to several films and TV documentaries, and found homes on labels such as Make Mine Music, Resonant, Cathedral Transmissions, Silber and Somewherecold.
Wodwo is the alias of Ray Robinson, an award-winning novelist and screenwriter with literary works that have been adapted into major motion pictures. Inspired by artists such as Yellow6, Yutaka Hirasaka and Marcus Fischer, Robinson’s foray into ambient music began in 2018 and his compositions have quickly attracted a blossoming legion of fans.

Talking About X is JARR’s second full-length album, following their debut An Echo In Her Skin, released on Hush Hush Records in 2021 to critical acclaim. Their new album, made up of nine new tracks with a total duration of about 50 minutes, is stylistically different to their debut, being more heartfelt and emotional. Its sound is far more expansive and melodical, while the soundscapes are still solidly post-rock but with a much dreamier, more ambient feel.
Talking About X is a captivating album with a dreamlike quality, carefully mastered by George Mastrokostas (aka Absent Without Leave) and highly recommended for devotees of Labradford, Roy Montgomery and Harold Budd.

Talking About X comes in two distinct editions.

The first one is a deluxe limited edition of 100 handmade, hand-stamped and hand-numbered collectible copies. This edition includes an exclusive bonus disc, not included in the other edition or the digital download. The bonus disc, entitled More About X, includes X new tracks with a total duration of X minutes. It is packaged in a lovely, hand-tied, sewn fabric envelope, which includes two 4 panel insert sheets containing tracklist and information printed on 250 gsm light green and light brown recycled cardboards and the front cover images printed on polaroid style photo paper. It also comes bundled with a download code coupon and a Sound In Silence card.

The second one is a limited edition of 200 handmade and hand-numbered collectible copies. It is packaged in a lovely hand-stamped 127mm x 127mm 250 gsm light green recycled cardboard envelope with the front cover image printed on a polaroid style photo paper and an insert sheet containing tracklist and information printed on a 120 gsm light brown recycled cardboard. It also comes bundled with a download code coupon and a Sound In Silence card.

Pianist, composer, performer. Tiziano Popoli produces musical projects, sound installations and soundtracks for video, cinema, theater and dance. His interests includes minimalism, sound experimentation, ethnic - traditional music, field recording, and interactive arts. He has been at the forefront of Italian electronic music since the mid 1980's.

In the words of Tiziano himself: 

"In Lingua Mortuorum (something like " In the Language of the People Dead”) is an unreleased piece for magnetic tape from 1989, largely made by manipulating classical music and home made recordings. The title alludes to a “talk of the dead”. In this work I was inspired by the positions of the people killed by the eruption of Vesuvius, as can be seen in Pompeii. As if they were alive, as if they could move and talk. Last year I found this tape in my archive and digitized it, then I sent the file to some friends, Riccardo Sinigaglia, Paolo Modugno and Paolo Venturi, asking them to play freely on the piece. Everyone played on the "base" without listening to the tracks of the others In the end I edited all the material and… voila."

This 16 min+ single comes in the physical form of a Limited Edition, one sided 12" lathe cut record. Adhered to the somewhat distressed back side of each of the 50 copies is a uniquely different vintage x-ray that has been scratched and scarred, and then hand lettered with vintage Letraset rub on lettering. In effect, this is the TRS version of the infamous "bone music" x-ray records released in Russia in the 50's and 60's...although ours will sound quite a bit better! As usual these records were cut at Bladud Flies, in Wales, UK.

There will also be a full, CD version of the album with 4 other tracks, which will be available at the time this record ships, in mid October. Everyone that buys the lathe cut record in advance will also get a copy of the CD as well, and the two will ship together in October when they are ready.

Of course the CD will be available to purchase separately as well, in mid October.

Mixed field recordings construct two tracks, two greatly different Cathedrals. The Listener is walking between them to discover that there are different forms of sanctity.

"Katedra" means "cathedral" in Lithuanian language so the album makes a prarallel between primeval Lithuanian forests that were considered sacred in old times and churches as the buildings of sanctity.

The first track of this the album is constructed by layering field recordings from one of such primeval forests that is located near town of Juodkrantė during the summer of 2021. The second track is made between summer of 2021 and first months of 2022 by synthesizing organ sound and mixing it with field recordings from couple of real world catholic churches.

London-based Slowcraft continues to craft... slow, and quiet, beautiful music... the type of music that I love waking up to and observing the dark sombre sky open up to the world for another short day. For the latest release on this boutique label curated by James Murray, we are gifted with a six-piece album by a Czech composer and field recordist, Tomáš Šenkyřík, titled Hajú, which is an old Moravian word that loosely translates to “hush hush”. Today's track premiere of "Advent" is as appropriate as ever, with the seasonal preparation for the holidays, which began yesterday, November 27th. The word is a Latin adoption of "adventus" which means "arrival," and whether you are of Christian faith or not, the approach towards this time is sensed by everyone. For me, it's like a ramp down off the highway of the year, about to enter through the tunnel, where night and quietude surround a slow transition in-between, before a ramp-up into busy January, where somehow everyone exhales anew. This journey is perfectly soundtracked by Hajú, with its "subtle weaving together of acoustic elements, soft synthetic manoeuvres and evocative field recordings to spellbinding effect." These gentle, minimal, and fragile sounds are cradled further by warm strings and piano keys, concluding with a lovely lullaby, with vocals by Marie Puttnerová, "a modern-day framing of Moravian folklore guided as much by ambient minimalism as the ghosts of Dvořák and Janáček, one in which the family hearth forever glows with unmistakable warmth and generosity of spirit."
