This is a recording of some interactions on a black grouse lek in the highlands of Scotland. 

It was recorded with a Sony M10 and a matched pair of Clippy EM172 mics.

Tribute to Donncha O’Dulaing.  I don't usually put other peoples work on my page here, however, I have good memories of the late 1960’s and early 70’s (I was 7 or 8 years old at the time).   When finished school for the day, I would arrive home, the radio was usually on, soon Donncha’s program ‘3.01’ would come on the valve radio, it was called ‘301’ because it begun at that time.  I was not really listening, however it influenced me somehow as in later years I developed an interest in recording the ‘old’ people, just as I had heard Donncha on the radio.  I never met him but I consider him to be the best broadcaster I have ever heard on any station.  This recording is of him reading my letter and commenting on the bird tape I sent him.  This piece is from RTE radio (Irelands National Radio & Television station)  This was broadcast on the 8th of January 1989.  This recording is from an analogue cassette.

Tribute to Donncha O’Dulaing

In this podcast we look at potential ways to get beyond the time-consuming, and sometimes quite heated, arguments between those who believe that aggregate ‘green growth’ is possible and those who believe that environmental constraints will oblige us to adopt a different economic goal. Beth Stratford, an economics researcher who is a fellow at the New Economics Foundation and the co-author of the report ‘The UK's Path to a Doughnut-Shaped Recovery’, outlines an agenda that she believes both degrowth advocates and green growth advocates should be able to sign up to. She describes four strategies for reducing growth dependency in the economy while simultaneously improving societal wellbeing. Political feasibility and the challenges of movement-building are also discussed. Seán Ó Conlaín, David Somekh and Caroline Whyte participated in the interview.

"We have been hearing it in you neighborhood at Roswell, Georgia for the past 8 months. It comes perhaps 2 times per week and the sounds  occurs up to 3 times over about 2-3 minutes at most. 
My Merlin Bird ID app never recognizes the sound."

Mystery Two Tone Shrill Sounding Bird Call

Today I spend the night and morning in a bog, with the hope to record Black Grouse courtship game. A friend of mine had set up two tents for photographing them and let me to use one tent for sound recording. Unfortunately it was too wet and tight in the tent and I nearly drowned my gear. The game started just at the moment when I realized my situation. I retreated farther away and recorded there with the parabola. Besides the grouse there were curlews displaying and calling. This sound is quite rare nowadays and I enjoyed it a lot! I also discovered that sound is also quite interesting when slowed down.

It's that time of year where I focus on migration, as it's the best time to catch bird calls as they migrate over-head, often vocalising in a flock or just on their own. In this case, a single Brambling amongst a flock of Chaffinch
