Feral three-piece Birdsong are on a mission to tear up South London’s gig circuit.

Having streamlined from a considered Camberwell six-piece to a volatile punk trio, they’ve been fine-tuning their core USP and spreading live music mayhem across the capital.

2016 has already seen a slew of hair-raising shows and, with a brand new monthly residency at the Brixton Windmill, it seems Birdsong’s plans have grown serious wings.

One glance at their Bandcamp page shows it’s still early doors studio-wise, with October’s Birdshit EP their first recording without the ‘demo’ tag. But the vociferous Dead Fox, Scum and Imperial War Museum find the band in fine fettle.

Together, Barnaby (drums), Henry (vocals/guitar) and Mateo (bass) mess about with stop-start, lo-fi clamour of early grunge, chucking new punk and emo into their acerbic mix.

Like kindred spirits Slaves, who they supported late last year, they’re intent on twisting balls-to-the-floor rock into new, weird shapes.

For our latest 30 seconds interview, the lads recorded themselves answering 11 questions about their musical gene-pool, where they get their kicks and how becoming the world’s third biggest economy could be on the cards…
