Today we kick off our first Predawn "Episode" with a live set by one of our label heads: Nils Edte. Recorded at our Label Night on the 16th of December 2023 w/ Feral, TAMA, Laima Adelaide.

Episode 1. Nils Edte (live)

The time has come to reflect on some of the standout performances from this year’s remarkable Mostra Festival. There were some program adjustments, and new stages were added compared to last year. We had more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors around and inside the Castell De Montjuï. Thursday at the Hangar provided a perfect opening, a special day for all of us who cherish ambient, experimental, and obscure music. The Pati stage at the Castell De Montjuïc was a brilliant addition and hit the mark perfectly.

But let's start from the end with the festival's closing set, the grand finale. The Mostra crew meticulously planned the lineup, giving the honor of closing this magical extended weekend to one of their residents - Timnah. Given the high caliber of talent at Mostra, ending the festival on a high note was no simple task. Yet, what we witnessed (and what you will hear in this recording) was a masterful set from a DJ who truly knows her craft.

Following an impressive performance by Rrose, Timnah took the stage with a flawlessly curated techno set. 

In this musical laboratory, Timnah was an alchemist, deftly mixing familiar elements with a slightly more energetic twist than usual. For the first 30 minutes, she kept the base simmering at a low “fire,” allowing the atmosphere to build gradually before adding multiple layers of hypnotic, high-energy elements that electrified the dancefloor. 
The result was an exhilarating and dynamic performance, making it one of the most memorable highlights of this year’s Mostra Festival.

French artist 'Clarence Rise' is our next guest in the series. Taking this opportunity to showcase his love for slower techno, he approaches with a more ambient style, still keeping with his usual sophisticated touch.
Releasing his debut album 'Tangent Beliefs' in 2022, and more recently delivering podcasts for well respected labels, 'Monument' and 'BAHN'. Clarence proves an experienced and progressing talent with numerous releases under his belt.

His inspiration drawing from varying themes and emotions, Clarence incorporates dark atmospheres and complex rhythmic tones, creating a pensive melancholy throughout his music.

Mateo Hurtado creates hypnotic techno and experimental music. Inspired by the surrealist movement, obscure symbolism and ritualistic incantations, his music seeks to invoke the hidden, impossible images buried in the unconscious.

Be it as a DJ or live performer, his intuitive approach seeks to overcome conventional boundaries of the genre, sending the listener on an ever spiralling journey through polyrhythmic drumwork imbued with otherworldly melodies and dronelike, shifting atmospheric soundscapes.

He has released on labels like Annulled Music, Secuencias Temporales, Space Drum Meditation and Accents Records among others.

Our adept Nera is here to explore the dark phenomenon from all angles. 

Hailing from the outskirts of Amsterdam, Nera is managing editor of the renowned platform Minimal Collective, which fruitfully operates at the intersection of music, art and technology. But not only that: She also leaves her mark on the scene with her own musical vision and her well-balanced selections of psychedelic rhythms and progressive gems with perfectly timed trips into the depths of layered emotive basslines.

Nera lifts off with repetetive and minimalist structures that get soon combined with eerie atmospheres. With the addition of more playful sounds this mix gradually builds up into a mind-bending story that visits a variety of uncharted cosmic locations, culminating in heavy bassline drivers topped by intense psychedelics. In the process, Nera is developing her very own interpretation of dark hypnotism with great class. Nomen est omen!
