Shaftula Industries

Whoo! My first original composition since literally a year ago. This one is dedicated to a personal good friend of mine. Basically she asked me to make a theme for her character and I was like "lol k". Needless to say, this came out pretty much how I pictured it in my mind and I am really impressed with the outcome.
This isn't a fan made battle theme for Pokémon like my usual compositions. This song has a particular structure to it too, based on my friend's character's Summer-Autumn, and Winter-Spring personalities. I tried to incorporate the emotions that I was given about this character and I think I portrayed them rather well. Here's the structure:

Theme One A: (Represents the Summer-Autumn character)
Ironically, this character appears to be slightly more negative than your average "summer" persona but there are also elements of confidence in this character, which was why I added the fast paced rhythm with a minor key. 

Theme One B:
In the outline for how the piece was going to sound, somewhere along the line there was a sort of slow, melancholic and somber kind of theme. This theme still represents the Summer-Autumn character, but more calm and sorta..sad I guess. The drum beat kicks back in for the transition into Theme Two a.k.a the Winter-Spring character. 

Theme Two A (Representing the Winter-Spring character)
This character is more energetic, positive, cute, and sweet. To execute this characteristics I switched from a minor key to a major key (A Major, in my opinion being the most happy key in music). The rising scales and trumpets emphasize the joy in this section and the accompaniment instruments (synths, guitars, glockenspiels, etc..) portray a sense of friendship. It then changes back in to E Minor in the following section.

The Grumpy Theme:
In the page of ideas I was given, it was indicated that one part of the song would portray a grumpy kind of character. I'm never 100 percent sure how to really portray that using music but I decided to switch back to the minor key and keep it tense and quiet. There is a silent part at the end that transitions into Theme Two B. This silence represents that the character's spirits are about to be lifted up again, but even higher.

Theme Two B:
The final section of the piece features the melody of Theme Two A except raised by a semitone. It is now in the key of Bb (B flat) and and the main melody from Theme One and Theme Two are combined with the trumpet and the oboe creating a sense of fusion between the two characters. That end part is just how it will loop back into Theme One, which I will probably do some other time.

Whoo! Another original composition. This one is dedicated to...well, me, seeing as I haven't properly composed a theme for myself. I'll come up with a narrative later, I am really tired as I type this. So I hope you enjoy and I hope to release more original compositions soon!
