'Don’t Shoot The Messenger’ is the new single by BISHI, visionary London musician, producer and founder of WITCiH, produced at Visconti Studio by Tony Visconti, who is famed for his work with David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Sparks. The two make a game-changing pairing, with BISHI bringing the avant-garde and glamour of London’s capital, and Visconti, bringing his masterful experience and a love of British iconoclastic musicians.

It’s a cinematic symphony which  transforms the Sitar from a classical instrument into a pop and electro-acoustic behemoth. Through the technique of  midi-mapping the  Sitar to  Ableton Push, Bishi  revolutionises its usage. The song is about a new beginning and a baptism of fire; departing old creative worlds, towards  brave new frontiers. Don’t Shoot The Messenger is another example of Bishi’s characteristically unique and idiosyncratic style.

The single includes remixes from noirish synth performer Hinako Omori (Ed O’Brien, Kae Tempest, Georgia), rave wizard Richard Norris (The Grid, Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve) and Ben Corrigan (William Basinski, Jonsi & Alex, Robert Ames, Excuse the Mess). They reflect BISHI’s love and long-standing relationship with LGBTQ club spaces, from her early teens when she was adopted by Leigh Bowery’s band, Minty, and started DJing at clubs like Kashpoint and The Siren Suite.

Across three compelling hours, ‘Defiance’ is set to examine how Britain’s Asian community was targeted with a campaign of violence and murder between 1976 and 1981, as National Front activity became increasingly prominent.

These timely films will lift the lid on a period in recent British history, in which the violence, injustice – as well as the extraordinary courage of those who confronted it – resonates through the decades.

The series investigates seminal events ranging from the Southall protests, the death of Blair Peach, the Battle for Brick Lane and the extraordinary story of the Bradford 12 – events which were often overlooked by the press, the police and the government. 

Through a cache of archive footage and compelling new testimony from key figures on the front line at the time, the ground-breaking documentary series will show what happened when the British Asian community decided to fight back.
