Other influential artists like Gangsta Pat, Playa Fly, and Tommy Wright III contributed to the scene’s reputation for storytelling about street life, violence, and struggles in impoverished neighborhoods.

By the late 1990s, Three 6 Mafia achieved mainstream success, bringing Memphis’ underground sound to a global audience and solidifying the city’s legacy in hip-hop history.

A compilation of 90's Westcoast Hip-Hop gems I like. Featuring artists from all over : Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, Fresno and even a bit from the Midwest too ! It's a genre I truly vibe with. Compared to East Coast Hip-Hop, it's moderate use of sample leaves more room for live instruments and created a groove of it's own. The use of talkbox, syrens, heavy basslines, and punchy snares really created a distinctive sound. It just makes you want to be in California, driving slow with no real destination, window down, music blasting.
