Kazi Ni Mziki(2008)

Bishop was one of the first artists to join Calif records and was highly involved in making and pushing Genge music to become a household name it is today.Bishop started music at an early age.He used to be a drummer for the church and says he wrote his first lyrics(8 lines) aged only nine(9).In 1991,a brother to a close friend returned to Kenya from the U.S with a bunch of stereo cassettes that had different kind of music he had never heard.This was his first encounter with hip hop.He says he was amazed by the kind of music he was hearing and he immediately fell in love with it.In the tapes was music from The Sugar hill gang,Run DMC,LL Cool J,Eric B and Rakim,The World Class Recking Crew,The juice crew and soul jams from different artists like Michael Jackson and Prince.This influenced him to start rapping and by the time he was eleven(11),he was already listening to artists such as Ice cube and the De Lench Mob,Bahamadia,Technotronics,CMC Music Factory and later on the likes of Tupac,Snoop and The Dog Pound,B.I.G,Bone Thuggz,The Lost Boyz,Wu-Tang Clan and many others.
  During his high school years(1998-2001),Bishop would often go to freestyle in popular clubs in Nairobi and this would accelerate his obsession with music.This did not go well with his parents who insisted He complete His education first before involving himself in music.After High school,he joined calif records in the year 2002.
The name Bishop was given to him by his friends after seeing how he was addicted to the 1992's Tupac film 'Juice'.He could talk the whole film through and he in a way behaved like Tupac's character 'Bishop'.      
By ghost writing lyrics for big names in calif and other studios,Bishop has seen the music industry in Kenya grow from the simple outfit it was to the flooded market it is today.His debut song was released in the year 2003 where he collaborated with the late Lady S in the song Lovely Ladies.Written and arranged by Bishop,the song was a big hit and 
it catapulted the career of the two artists.Although after the release of the video things started to take a different turn in Calif Records in terms of artist management and music release,Bishop went ahead  ghost writing more songs for other artist and compiling his singles for his planned album.Solo Singles produced in calif included 'Manzi wa aina gani','huyu jamaa'and Mlima where as collabos included 'Dame amejibeba(remix) with flexx,'Wasi wasi with Nikki,Pupa with Pilipili and many others.Most of these songs were never released and Bishop felt frustrated career wise.In the year 2007,he featured in DNA's'Banjuka(the remix)' along side Kaya,Jimwat,DnG,Prezzo and Big pin.After the death of his long time friend and label mate Lady S in september of 2007,Bishop decided to quit Calif Records.
  In 2008,He recorded his come back single 'Kazi ni Mziki'(Music is my work) with Jomino and it featured Wiwy on the hook.This song was also the title of his first compilation album which features songs mostly produced at calif records.He is currently working on the second album 'Hadithi na Maswali'.Production in the album include work from Bishop,Maich Blaq and the Herbalist(Both of Herbal Records) as well as other producers.He is also set to release various collabos with new and re knowned artists.The first release from the album is the single "mimi nawe" written and arranged by Bishop,produced by maich blaq and the herbalist.Bishop says the west coast music influenced him to become the rapper he is.His favorite artistes are Ice Cube,Rakim,LL cool J,2pac,salt n peppa,lost Boyz,Coolio and many others.In Kenya and Africa,he has big respect for Abbas,chiwawa,Juliani,nonini,juacali,jimwat,AY,Prof J,Hip hop pantsula and many others. 

Apart from being a rapper and a music producer in his studio Farmer Boy Records,Bishop is a trained television producer and has been involved in production of various documentaries and music videos.He also writes movie scripts  and directs behind the camera.
