FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE. Après notre sélection dédiée aux racines du reggae (mento, calypso, ska) l’an dernier, Musical Echoes vous propose cette fois de revenir une trentaine d’années en arrière dans la moiteur de la fièvre digitale jamaïcaine… Ready ? 

Dans les années 80, les producteurs commencent à composer les riddims avec des ordinateurs tandis que les MCs et chanteurs s’en donnent à cœur joie et inventent de nouvelles manières de toaster.
Si certains considèrent que ces nouveaux styles ont tué le reggae roots, d’autres y voient plutôt la réappropriation du genre par le peuple jamaïcain qui, à l’époque, a d’abord envie de danser… Tour d’horizon non exhaustif en une trentaine de vinyles early digital, rub-a-dub, digital et dancehall issus des années 80 et quelqu’uns des 90’s.

Ewart Beckord, aka U-Roy nous a quittés le 17 février dernier, à l'âge de 78 ans. Avec lui, c'est un immense pan de la musique jamaicaïne qui disparaît. Actif depuis le début des années 1960, celui qui a popularisé le fait de parler sur une rythmique (faire le deejay ou toaster) d'abord en sound system puis en studio, a une carrière qui embrasse quasiment tous les styles du reggae et de ses ramifications : rocksteady, roots, rub-a-dub, dub, dancehall et même hip hop. Fan absolu du toaster, le MC et selecta Sir James le cite comme l'une de ses plus grandes inspirations dont il collectionne naturellement les disques. Pour l'occasion,  il replonge dans ses bacs et passe en studio pour enregistrer une énorme tribute selection au père de tous les deejays, the Originator. 30 titres 100% vinyles qui forment un indispensable hommage à cette légende dont les innombrables hits resteront immortels tant qu'ils seront joués ! The music has always been my true passion. I was born in Palermo, Sicily - Italy, and young I started attending the local hiphop scene but I have fallen in love in the late nineties with the reggae music.
I collect reggae records  since then; I love the reggae music in all its many forms and contaminations!
In 2000 with Mamed and Ciloozz, after joined Dj Koma and Hairl,  found our sound system: the MACUME 'SOUND.
I don't like fake and commercial dubplate, so to enrich my set from several years i enjoy producing riddims, remix and mash up.
Recently I was involved inna new music project called: DUB.REBELS!
