"‘Island’ is the story of my attempts to swim away from my island and trying to break through the  surge. I fail, and wake up in a state of amnesia every time with my face stuck to the sand.  Forgotten that I was trying to leave. It’s as if my ratio is trying to keep me from finding new  perspectives to kee me on safe, known soil. The end of ‘Island’ is a final attempt at pushing  through the surge and escaping. I succeed, and drift away in a dream-like state. ‘Fabled’ by all I  see, excited for what is to come." - Zes

"I’m seeing the world from a newfound perspective. I see movement. I see pressure. From within  and outside of myself I see a world driven by pressure and stress. ‘Get with it, or you’re out.’  Within ‘Mendenhall’ I use the metaphor of a glacier, that moves under the pressure of its own  weight. Ice that melts under this pressure to become melt water allows the big mass of ice to  move forward. But the melted water was once also part of the moving mass." - Zes
