Almost weekend and we are releasing a new inspiring mix by the Programmer at Operator radio, event producer, cultural researcher and dj; Krismika is heavily involved both on and off stage in Rotterdam's nightlife. Her sound is heavily influenced by the months she spent in Prague in 2021. She saw here that the sound of Prague's nightlife was a lot darker and gloomier than what she knew from Rotterdam. As a dj her sound yields a broad selection of tunes within the genres of Electro, New Beat, EBM, Wave and Italo. A dark combination destined to get (and keep) you dancing.

I make weird music for weird people. I tried to copy what I hear in the work of others but I always end up with different music solutions. I thought that was the wrong way till I started focusing on the timbre and it helped me to burst out. I spent ages with the analog synthesizers looking for that right tone color and little by little the music structure came up on its own.

Later I added guitar sound and different solutions of percussion which led me to minimize the digital sound from my work eventually.

My strange and odd voice component came last. I had a certain phrase in my mind that completed the melody perfectly. So I started using my voice to get the right tone color more often, even though I said that I would never be a singer in the past.

I am more of a night person, usually, I find peace in my mind which is a must for music making.

Co-founder of Norway’s future-facing Ute crew, Ekkel (Teo Bachs) has a front-row seat in the cockpit on their psychedelic flavoured quest. From their woodland beginnings they’ve staked a claim to freedom through music and community, and expanded to include brick and mortar club nights and a self-titled label for the release of their magnetic and mysterious techno sounds. Forest-bath electronics that take stock of Scandinavia’s ambient tradition and cross-pollinate it with a measure of acid, trance and midnight sun. Teo’s own steadily rising number of productions (side project H25 included) has fleshed out Ute’s vision with a personal twist, and there’s another three scheduled for the fall. The past few years too have seen him hard at work exploring the possibilities of sound in a lonely cabin as part of Solar Alliance, collaborating with S.O.N.S on Korean label Junction Forest and producing many more unreleased tracks, some of which you’ll hear here first for a very special number. It’s a wormhole trip that marches headlong from the shadows, shimmering and physical beats that heave and swell, tribal breaks that flit from track to track and build a cathartic mood that harks back to Ute’s woodland roots. BITE is the Berlin-based techno label co-founded by Hayden Payne (aka Phase Fatale) in 2018. Beginning with the debut collaborative EP by Silent Servant & Phase Fatale, the label aims to platform artists who operate outside the conventional preconceptions of techno and are united by an ambition to push the boundaries of electronic music. This drive is further exemplified by regular showcases at renowned institutions Berghain, Basement, and Tbilisi’s KHIDI as well as a multitude of clubs throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

With a vast artist roster from stalwarts such as Ron Morelli and Teste to contemporary talent from the likes of Pablo Bozzi and Gael, the eclectic variety of releases touches upon a range of styles along the moodier fringes of electronic music. BITE has proved itself as the imprint to watch. Fresh off the heels of their 5 year anniversary in 2023 culminating in the acclaimed triple LP compilation ‘Shedding Skin,’ BITE moves into more dancefloor territory with their next releases by label head Phase Fatale and remixes by Rrose. The display of the music is also represented in its visual prowess with cutting designs and colorways intended to take the sound into another dimension. From proper techno to synthpunk and to sparse minimalist industrial, BITE never fails to deliver fresh and razor-sharp sounds tying together the narrative of dance music.
