This next one comes by way of Olivia Mendez, a gifted DJ and insatiable vinyl lover, vinyl digger, whose groovy and mesmerising, techno emanates libertine energy from every pore. Growing up in France and influenced by Senegalese rhythms, early Detroit and the UK underground (where she cut her teeth for five long years). Her sound bridges cultures and genres, united by a shared affinity for beats, rhythm and the pursuit of a trance-like state. Her work strives to highlight a sonic kinship and broadcast a rendition of it seen through her own personal lens, that is, of someone whose own path has taken her from France and the UK to Germany, where she now lives and runs a tight ship, and frequently plays the usual list of big league venues. From her Berlin base, she’s founded DIG (Dust In Grooves), and co-created its sub-label DIG Curated alongside Chami, born out of a shared passion for uncovering the work of little known artists and preserving their sounds in circular form. She is also the founder of the FLINTA collective KONVENT, dedicated to establishing feminist cultural spaces through in situ music pieces and art interventions. Blending creativity, community, and a celebratory spirit, KONVENT provides enriching experiences while actively challenging patriarchal oppression. Politics, togetherness and music are the lifeblood of Mendez’s work, and her looping and groove-leaning sound the conduit through which her ethic manifests. Bassiani Podcast 239 marks the latest chapter, presenting this mission in its purest form: a two-hour journey weaving current aesthetics with nostalgic imprints. The progressive mix transitions from minimalistic rhythms to hypnotic, spacey, mental and groovy elements, punctuated by dreamy, suspended moments. This carefully paced journey is a condensed version of the type of progression she likes to explore in longer sets.

Despite this being their first time performing together, the synergy between the artists was undeniable. The set delivered raw, industrial power that captivated the crowd, keeping the dancefloor ablaze with heat and energy.

Blue Hour doesn’t need much of an intro, since 2013 the Brightonian DJ, Producer and label head has built a reputation for quick-witted techno and spread his sound at viral pace. The whys are evident, through the years Luke Standing has walked a road from a love of UK dance music genres  (and associated incursions under the monikers Furesshu and Esoteric), to full-bore and masterfully cut techno. When he called the UK home, fate inevitably pulled him into Berlin’s orbit, a place he’d often visit to get his musical fix, and for over a decade it’s been his new nest. He’s come into his own here, working hard (and playing hard) to build a sturdy vision that’s evinced through bookings, releases and close contact with names like Dold, Alpha Tracks, Scandinavian trance collective UTE and Philippa Pacho (with whom he runs forward-thinking  sublabel positivesource). His work, and everything his eponymous label puts out, is stimulating and high order, hedonic techno made for the big room that assuringly cuts all felt spatial and temporal bonds. Smouldering loops that reference his love of 90s rave, and pull equally from IDM, breakbeat, acid, trance and UK bass, furnishing a signature style that’s bullet-fast and unstoppable. Bassiani Podcast 245 is an hour-long studio-recorded spell to the tune of his trademark euphoria. Sweaty beats made for dancing well up to and beyond the blue hour.

Back in August 2024, in the final stretch of summer, Ancient Methods b2b UVB took us on a three-hour ride to the end of time and back. A post-industrial vortex pulled us in, where deep mechanical grooves met tight rhythmic control in a set that was both punishing and hypnotic. The pacing was expertly crafted, grinding tension, explosive peaks, and moments of eerie restraint, all delivered with a raw, analog-driven energy that kept the floor locked in. BITE is the Berlin-based techno label co-founded by Hayden Payne (aka Phase Fatale) in 2018. Beginning with the debut collaborative EP by Silent Servant & Phase Fatale, the label aims to platform artists who operate outside the conventional preconceptions of techno and are united by an ambition to push the boundaries of electronic music. This drive is further exemplified by regular showcases at renowned institutions Berghain, Basement, and Tbilisi’s KHIDI as well as a multitude of clubs throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

With a vast artist roster from stalwarts such as Ron Morelli and Teste to contemporary talent from the likes of Pablo Bozzi and Gael, the eclectic variety of releases touches upon a range of styles along the moodier fringes of electronic music. BITE has proved itself as the imprint to watch.
