Palermo producer Luca Lento has a glut of group associations to his name since releasing ‘Brothers and Sisters’ as part of Club Bass, ‘My Nights’ with Contact-Two, Slow Melody’s ‘Take Me Higher’ and Z-Side’s ‘Get Dis Feeling’, all back in 1996. Suffice to say the man has experience; plus anyone who can make the alias of Pooper Scooper work has got to be onto something. With releases on Mauro Picotto’s Alchemy imprint and also having turned his remix hand to UK garage pop crossover ‘Do You Really Like It’ by Pied Piper, Lento has had love shown by a wealth of select spinners, including Prok & Fitch, Roger Sanchez, Erick Morillo and Kid Massive.

Lathered in percussion of the once you pop-you can’t stop variety, deep tribalism is defined by a froth worked into bass rotating with a muddy determination underneath. From there, ‘Poema’ is shaped by Lento’s installation of a crackly vocal made to babble like he’s twiddled the dial into the World Service while picking up a house transmission on the same wavelength. Its raspy signals fractured and sent ricocheting in and out of the mix play off the resolution of the groove, where a degree of coming off-the-wall, from the programming of the dialect chattering with irregular sexiness, to the coil doorstopper-like rebounds that surround it, never find Lento losing his balance.

Mendo handles the remix by telling the original to pin its shoulders back, the Clarisse headmaster turning the dancefloor into a treadmill with a slight incline and making sure there’s a strong armed pull to go with it. Sharper drums, percussion (leaking taps? Radar blips?) flicked down black holes until you can hear them being gulped down, and vocals sounding ever more pitched between bedraggled language tape and the cause of arena voodoo... you can hear deep techno condensation preparing its descent down the walls of whatever stuffy downstairs spot or domed expanse ‘Poema’ is ready for.

Created in 2003, Clarisse Records illustrates Mendo’s vision of electronic music. Releasing regularly his heartcrushes produced by strongly established internationally known artists or helping newcomers who deserve to be highlighted on the scene.

Following their much acclaimed surprise debut, VERMONT’s sophomore longplayer presented “another set that rewards deep listening” (AllMusic) and “a mix of simplicity and richness” whose result is “a feeling of spaciousness and a thrilling sense of weightlessness” (XLR8R). Stripping away even more percussion than on its predecessor, “II” saw @MarcusWorgull and Danilo Plessow zooming in on ambience, texture and sonic cohesiveness, allowing “each electronic voice to come into focus” (Pitchfork). Now, “II REMIXES” puts the beat back into the mix, thanks to iconic artists @DIXON, @I-CUBE and WASSERMANN (@wolfgang_voigt) who each develop their own irresistible groove out of the immersive source material. As one of the album’s most highlighted cuts, DSCHUNA gets the royal treatment by Innervisions head and internationally revered selector DIXON who proves his strong command of the dance floor with a hypnotic ride that surrounds the soaring sounds of the original with tribal- esque vocals. The instrumental version drops the chants, but retains the enchantment, all elegant rhythm and gorgeous strings. Versatile’s I:CUBE, legendary producer and DJ in its own right, brings a distinctly Parisian touch to the spectral SKORBUT, whose sci-fi-imbued widescreen aura gets reimagined as laser-gun-wielding space funk machine. Tiga - DJ, singer, producer, radio maverick, man of eight talents -- unleashes his brand new single 'Plush' December 17th via Different Recordings / PIAS.
Taken from his non-stoppable new mix CD Tiga Non Stop, the single was co-produced by Matthew Dear, starting as a freeform jam session and ending as something that works equally well as an underground club anthem and literally everybody's track of the year. It also features what Tiga is privately calling his greatest vocal performance to date.
"'Plush' was inspired by 80s dance TV shows like Pelvic Gold and The Bandana Patrol, as well as my undying love and respect for the city of Detroit," says the Montreal musician from his home in Montreal. "It's the first of what I know will be many collaborations with Matthew Dear, a sort of musical friendship bracelet that will bind us unto eternity."
As is the custom in contemporary dance music, Tiga handpicked and handpaid UK legend Jacques Lu Cont and German duo Ame (Kristian Beyer & Frank Widermann) to create two remixes of the new track. Drawing on his alleged stint as Madonna's choreographer, Lu Cont pumps up the tempo for the biggest rooms you could possibly imagine. Meanwhile Ame aims for a more minimal, hypnotic approach, sure to enthrall the geniuses who frequent Germany's hottest underground dance holes.
One of the most inexhaustibly creative and exhaustingly revered musicians in electronic music, Tiga has consistently garnered as much critical acclaim as anyone could reasonably hope to garner. Two decades deep into his career and going for it like each decade could be his last, he remains a pioneer of the electronic underground.
"This song comes 100% from a universe 1000% my own. I don't mind being thought of as 'The Different Guy,' so long as all the right people love me. And they do, because it's their right to be right all night, a'ight?"
