Our very own Bite the Belt reprobate and resident Lemon DJ, Hostile, is up for the Mix the Belt challenge this week and he’s bringing absolute fire.

Fresh Astrophonica noise from modern junglist Sully, forthcoming pieces of delight from Cosmic Bridge and a plethora of chart topping UTR tracks from every dark corner of the circuit. Too often are we in search of the next best sound on the scene, mixes packed exclusively with only the very latest releases. Whereas here we find a breath of fresh air that sheds thundering ushers of respect to incredible pieces that belong firmly outside of the ‘crate diggers’ vaults – in a digital decade where music is painfully throwaway it’s a delight to see someone celebrating the very best of what dnb has to offer without any regard for release date.

Pull-ups from the past 3 years of Om Unit, Machinedrum, Ivy Lab, Break & Moresounds with resounding nods to an even further (though I cringe when I use the word) past: Alix Perez’s Contradictions, the True Romance VIP and two absolute diamond tracks from someone who wasn’t always about making Gold Dust – original Bad Company member DJ Fresh dropping Heavyweight and The Gatekeeper back in ’09 and 2011, almost like a final sign-off before the commercial storm – and I really appreciate the nod of respect here by including them in the mix.

As vibrant as the punch it packs; fidgety, jungly, rolling with breaks and here for your free listening pleasure.

Having just dropped his second EP on Basserk Records, Nuaru drifts into the Mix the Belt fold with Episode 018; delivering a glitter-speckled smorgasbord of electronica, breaks, juke, footwork, jackin' house, drum & bass and grimey, dutty badness of the most 'party-time' kind.

Featuring tracks from his 'Aura Botanica' release this one gives you the sparkle of teenage youth on the chemical fuelled tiles though keeps the uplift levelled with enough subterranean vibes and mellow mood shifts.

If you were to leap across the UK's narrow channel you would stand to face a mighty expanse of dirt and mountain, woodland and bog. To find our latest guest mix venturer, traversing this gargantuan continent would be your only option. After mile after mystic mile you'd finally flop upon an ocean, vast and blue - and further still, beyond the fleeing horizon, lies an island, green and pure.

Here you would find all manner of audible delights, from DJ Presha's infamous, subterranean Samurai Music to the stretched horror-scape sound design of the obscure drone/ambient producer known as Fis. Our latest Mix the Belt warrior is from this very island - 'boom' production in hand - and it turns out that his illest of skillz on the deckles are just as naughty.

NZ-head, Unwell, takes to the stands with the sounds of the futurebeats, rumbling rollers and the polished-tech-vibe of the modern drum & bass aesthetic. Locked and loaded.
