If the photograph’s context is explained, fleshed beyond its rectangular peripheries, given depth of field, does it become more powerful, or does its poignancy and its romance fade with minor detail, thousands of little lights cast into the distance, distracting from its acuity? 

New Friend is a five-part radio documentary exploring the context behind a series of photographs taken by the artist and experimental filmmaker, Barbara Hammer (1939–2019). The photographs were taken over one weekend in August 1973, on Hornby Island, Ja-Dai-Aich, in the Salish Sea.

Don't Touch My Freedom

This play written, spoken, produced by me, is drawing thin lines between imagination and reality in an odd, yet common life situation- missing a flight. The monologues take the listener through different noisy layers of one voice that changes very often tenses, presenting a possible future-past self which is just a coping mechanism for diverting racing thoughts of guilt. The play is centered around creating a new identity in a possible future: a walking scientist, a humorous being, but also an occasion for social critique from a dissident to conforming with a life ruled by capital.
The piece is created with vernacular sounds: computer cooler, street shop alarms, walking sounds - mostly translated from noise to voice and back. The voice is recorded inside of one household. The text has been written mostly during travels. This piece was a recipient of Works for Radio from The Lake Radio and a longer version 2nd place in Burning Mic non-german speaking category for Berliner Hörspiel Festival of free Radio Plays

A Walking Scientist (Radio Drama)

Diana Duta’s current research centres on the work of phonetician and inventor of the universal phonetic alphabet, Alexander Melville Bell. In the mid- 1860s, Bell came up with a rather complicated and now largely forgotten way of transcribing every possible sound into a symbol, starting from the position of the speech organs. His alphabet, called Visible Speech, was initially meant to help deaf people learn how to speak, thanks to its visual nature.
