Kali Malone’s “Organ Dirges 2016 - 2017" is a collection of isorhythmic canons following the tradition of pipe organ requiems found in early modern music. Malone’s purified organ dirges echo embodied recollections of the piercing numbness of those battled encounters when the armours were stripped down, left with nothing other than will power, yet still standing upright as the columns of Sounion. The soothing and perceptive harmonies resonate to a presence that leans elegantly towards a courageous aftermath and a gleaming salutation. While the dirges themselves have minimal melodic and rhythmic variation, they appear in constant cyclical motion, revealing their refracted selves in a coherent yet unpredictable manner; like a rotating wheel where all spokes are perceptible but at any given moment in a different place.

Kali Malone (b. 1994, Colorado) is an American artist living and working in Stockholm, Sweden since 2012. Her solo works implement unique tuning systems in minimalist form for analog and digital synthesis often combined with acoustic instrumentation - such as pipe organ, string and wind instruments, lute and gong. Malone’s 2017 debut LP “Velocity of Sleep” was released on her own label XKatedral following tape releases put out by Ascetic House, Bleak Environment and Total Black. She is active in the groups Sorrowing Christ, Swap Babies, Upper Glossa with Caterina Barbieri. Her sophomore LP “Cast of Mind” is due spring 2018.

Kali Malone "Locus Of Repetition"

When Lucie Brock-Broido, poet of the witching hour, sadly passed away in March 2018, we released audio of her reading "Infinite Riches in the Smallest Room," a title that's an apt description of her entire body of work.

In our latest episode of SAL/on air, we are delighted to share her SAL reading in its entirety, which took place on April 2015 at Chihuly Garden and Glass. At the time of Brock-Broido’s visit, she had produced four astonishing collections of poetry: A Hunger, The Master Letters, Trouble in Mind, and Stay, Illusion, a finalist for the National Book Award and the National Books Critics Circle Award.

"You have harnessed yourself ridiculously to this world," she read, words that ring true hearing her now.

“MOI” is the fearless new full length album by artist and musician Steven Warwick. The record signals a more upbeat reprise following the previous, reflective release “Nadir”. “MOI”, the first physical release under his own name ( having previously recorded under the Heatsick monicker), is a journey considering interior worlds and personal architecture, as found in early spiritual narratives. Recorded in Berlin, the FUGA residency space in Zaragoza and and on location in New York, Warwick’s sonic vocabulary is further expanded with intense frenetic rhythms, prismatic melodies and resonant vocals.

Like the dopamine rush of contemporary life, “MOI” is a sonic roller coaster with a scream -if-you-wanna-go-faster urgency ; “Open Fire Hydrant” bursts out like a pressure valve spiralling onto the dancefloor, while Kaleidoscope offers cheeky anecdotes as told on a ride home soundtracked by a garage beat.
MOI is a spectrum both emotionally and musically, embedded with an underlying spirituality wrestling with existential dread, as witnessed in “Over There”, “Salvation”, “Kind of Blue” or the icy digital pulse of “Cold Light of Day”. “Danke” featuring guest vocals from visual artist Josephine Pryde offers a slightly gothic feel, albeit of the architectural variety, while the purgatorial transmissions of “Consolatio”, bring a moment of respite. “Rush” is a sensuous percussive workout before concluding on the rampaging seductive house track “Silhouette”.

Diana Duta’s current research centres on the work of phonetician and inventor of the universal phonetic alphabet, Alexander Melville Bell. In the mid- 1860s, Bell came up with a rather complicated and now largely forgotten way of transcribing every possible sound into a symbol, starting from the position of the speech organs. His alphabet, called Visible Speech, was initially meant to help deaf people learn how to speak, thanks to its visual nature.

The Holocene—or Anthropocene—Extinction is the sixth mass extinction in Earth's 4.5 billion year history. It is entirely the result of the human degradation of forests and rainforests, grasslands and wetlands, coral reefs and mangroves, and human encroachment on nature. Almost one million species of flora and fauna worldwide face extinction in the coming decades. According to a study published this year in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, "515 species {are} on the brink (1.7% of the evaluated vertebrates). Around 94% of the populations of 77 mammal and bird species on the brink have been lost in the last century. Assuming all species on the brink have similar trends, more than 237,000 populations of those species have vanished since 1900.

This is irreversible.

The road to ruin is paved with good intentions: of the 20 targets set out by the 2010 Convention on Biological Diversity in Aichi, Japan, none have been fulfilled. Humans are a superpredator: our fangs are greed, our greed is our demise. We are imprisoned in a psychic game of inurement; death by the smoothing of edges. But Gaia finds a way.

100% of proceeds for this single will go to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), to support their fight for biodiversity.
