Diddy, has seen him garner big attention from all corners of the electronic music scene whilst his brand new imprint Rumors is going from strength to strength. Releases have come the boss Guy Gerber himself in collaboration with Dixon, Chaim, the third release coming from Lake People with forthcoming material fromShaun Reeves. French Fries and Bambounou are just two of the progressive producers be found on the third part of Jimmy Edgar's esoteric, Techno tinged 'Metaphysix' series (https://soundcloud.com/ultramajic/sets/metaphysix-iii-correspondence), released on Ultramajic.

'Metaphysix' looks at the relationship and musical connection between Paris and Ultramajic, with Edgar inviting five ostensibly disparate producers, including Fries and Bambounou (as well as Crystal Bandito, Bobmo, Aden and Creepy Autograph)to translate similar musical ideas through cultural barriers.

To celebrate the release, Fries and Bambounou have curated a special mix for i-D that consists of calibrating of oscilloscopes, and other such wonders. Press play on this mysterious soundtrack where a wealth of new music is awaiting to be discovered.

In the running for tune of the year is Stylo G's 'Call Mi A Leader', a dedication by the Jamaican born, London raised dancehall star to both Bob Marley's 'Could You Be Loved' and his own 2011 hit 'Call Mi A Yardie'. On remix duty are dance dynamo's Raphael 'Raf Daddy' Rundell and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard aka the 2 Bears who deliver a bass heavy, tropical re-work of Stylo’s reggae swirled single. "I just picked tracks that were definitive in my life. Songs that one way or another effected my out look or my approach to music. For example the first time I heard Jehst 'Alien' I threw all my lyrics away, 'cos he had raised the bar. Same with Joni Mitchell. I don't absorb music constantly. When something comes along that grabs me it tends to become an obsession. Every track on the mix has at one point been on repeat, warped my mind and made me want to do something differently or better.. Sometimes musically and sometimes just in life in general."

Sam Sure: Music To... Warp a Fragile Mind

Hailing just down the road from a part of the country described last year by Copeland MP Jamie Reed as “that forgotten England”, North Lancashire duo @Aquilo create the sort of immersive, nuanced electronica that comes from growing up in an area of places people have heard of, but never been to.

Their North is not the saw mill, brass foundry North of post-industrial Manchester. Nor is it the shinily, prosperous North of post-Harvey Nichols Leeds. It’s not the worldly, transatlanticism of cosmic scouse Liverpool, nor is it the mint cake-imperialism of British Sea Power's Westmorland. 

It is a landscape forged less by the wretchedness around a person but, rather, a lack of wretchedness. An unremarkability in which two figures become part of a landscape and all the outsiderdom that comes from growing up in rural Northern England can only be used to create something focused and unforced. In the case of Silverdale raised Tom Higham and Ben Fletcher, a sound that flickers with bleak brilliance.

When asked to pick a theme for their mix, Aquilo chose ‘music to… get lost in’. Go figure. From Radiohead to James Vincent McMorrow, these are songs to cling to in one pub towns with nothing to do but sit in each others bedrooms and dream. Let’s get lost.


Aquilo: Music to...Get Lost In


Patrice Bäumel is the globetrotting producer and DJ whose music goes way beyond the dancefloor. The Dresden born ,Amsterdam based House and Techno champion grew up on a concoction of  Jazz, Depeche Mode and country music that (somehow) blossomed into a love of hardcore and gabba. Fast forwasrd a few years to when Hard Wax open a store in Dresden and Bäumel began to find his fingers on the records that would become his bread and butter.

Having been a longstanding resident at the late Trouw nightclub in Amsterdam, Patrice is more than well versed behind the decks and we are so excited to welcome him into the mix for i-D. Ahead of his set at Ibiza’s legendary Space next weekend press play on the deep tech sounds of Patrice Bäumel.

Australia’s favourite prodigal party daughter Nina Las Vegas has been so busy over the past couple of years we might need to come up with a new word for it. In between playing international festivals, and dominating Instagram, Nina teamed up with Andrew Levins and Diplo to form Heaps Decent—a series of music workshops at Wagga Wagga’s Riverina Juvenile Justice centre.

This month she’s setting off with Djemba Djemba, Monki, and Mssingno for the latest in her NLV Presents International Edition series. Hosted by Nina, they’re a way for her to bring her favourite acts to parties around the country. Before she slips into another wormhole of work and play, she gave us a glimpse of what getting ready with Nina Las Vegas sounds like.

@PBDY is the DJ, producer and founder of @weareTAR, the LA-based label who’ve put out records for the likes of Michelle Blades, Jimi Nxir and Cakedog. Having caught our attention when he toured with Flying Lotus, as he prepares to launch his show, The Monolith, on Radar Radio next month, this is something of a warm-up mix made exclusively for i-D. Featuring a whole lot of new releases from TAR, PBDY’s roommate is label manager at @Brainfeeder, and so it’s only natural (and much appreciated) that some unheard, unreleased magic from the BF family has found its way into the mix too.
