Das Hauptziel dieses neuen Werkes ist es, die akustischen, elektronischen und technischen Möglichkeiten des CLEX zu erforschen und gleichzeitig eine Verbindung mit dem Streichquartett herzustellen.

Es ist eine grosse Herausforderung, so unterschiedliche Klangkörper miteinander zu konfrontieren oder zu vereinen: auf der einen Seite das Streichquartett mit einer grossen musikalischen Geschichte und Tradition, einem gut etablierten Repertoire und einer sehr homogenen Klangqualität unter seinen vier Instrumenten.

Auf der anderen Seite das CLEX, ein völlig neues Instrument, ohne offensichtliche Verbindung zum Streichquartett und mit einer neuen Palette von Möglichkeiten, die es noch zu entdecken gilt.

Wie man sie kombiniert, ist die Hauptfrage dieser Komposition. 

Der Ausgangspunkt sieht das CLEX in der Mitte des Raumes und auch als zentralen Klangzünder vor, während das Streichquartett die von diesem Instrument ausgelösten Resonanzen und Impulse erweitert. Diese kraftvollen Impulse, sowohl akustisch als auch elektronisch, werden vom Quartett auf der Bühne entwickelt, indem sie die Clex-Resonanz akustisch verlängern und mit ihr durch die Bearbeitung des Klangs mit Hilfe von voraufgenommener und Live-Elektronik verschmelzen.

Diese Impulse werden das ursprüngliche Klangmaterial des Stücks bestimmen und auch seine Form beeinflussen, indem sie sowohl die strukturelle als auch die klangliche Entwicklung bestimmen.

Polymorphism Records adds to its catalog the latest work by Vanity Productions, the alias of Christian Stadsgaard. The Danish producer, in addition to co-founding Posh Isolation alongside Loke Rahbek, has been involved in other collective projects such as Damien Dubrovnik, with his partner Rahbek, and The Empire Line, alongside two other major names: Iron Sight and Varg.

The Madrid-based label launched in 2019 with a first release by Alcarcia, the label's founder. This was the first installment in a series of four releases, concluding with An Eternity Still, a work that stands as a sonic manifesto on transition, memory, and transformation. Vanity Productions delves into the idea of closing cycles, exploring the tension between nostalgia and the need to move forward. The album captures that fleeting moment when memories cling to the present while the future demands its space. There is something ritualistic in this farewell, like shedding accumulated weight, letting go of what was once cherished to embrace the new, or setting fire to the past without fear of what lies ahead.

Musically, this work expands the artist's characteristic sonic spectrum. Across the album's five tracks, Vanity Productions crafts a sound identity that oscillates between harmonic melancholy, long, sustained chords and evocative vocals that transport the listener to a serene and beautiful space, and the gradual erosion created by accumulating layers that degrade the soundscape.

The composition and creation of An Eternity Still feature contributions from Emma Acs and Malthe Fischer, along with Christian Stadsgaard himself. However, space is also given to two other artists, Ireen Amnes and Farzané, who reinterpret two of the album's tracks with distinct outcomes. Ireen Amnes’ version of Vanishing Point takes on a more unsettling tone than the original, while Farzané’s remix of Slow Oscillating Void suggests that the end of the journey is abrupt, starkly contrasting with the comforting sonic environment crafted by Vanity Productions.

A generative soundscape/installation in Supercollider for n channels. This piece explores a dialectical relation between control and chance, where the individual sounds are shaped in detail but  appear in a random sequence, creating new and unexpected contexts for the sounds with each iteration of the piece. The allusion to nature is based on the indifference of the process to the sounds, which may appear to have causal and teleological relations at times.

(Farzaneh Nouri) is a sound artist, composer, and researcher based in the Netherlands. Her work delves into speculative approaches to sound, science, and technology, encompassing various disciplines such as electroacoustic music composition, computer science, instrument development, epistemology, and linguistics. Farzané composes for interactive installations, films, XR and multi-sensory experiences, and performs live with a focus on free improvisation. Her ongoing practice-based research investigates machine learning methods in the framework of free improvisation.

Bjarni Gunnarsson – Icelandic Composer / Sound artist. Released numerous LP´s, EP´s, compilation tracks and reworks on labels like Vertical Form, Thule, Uni:form, Spezial Material, Trachanik, LMALC, Shipwrec, 3LEAVES and Granny records.

Perfomed his music in concerts and festivals in Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Ireland and Iceland. Collections of his solo works can be found on the CDs “Safn 2006-2009” (2010), "Processes & Potentials" (2013), "Paths" (2016) and "Lueur" (2018).

Concerned with process-based ideas. Sounds focusing on internal activity and motion. Compositions that put into foreground behaviors, actions, fluid sound structures, fuzzy materials or forms.

Interested in exploring the contact between composed computer sound structures and space. Has presented/worked in various spatial configurations such as at the WFS system in Leiden (192 speakers), the WFS system in Berlin (832 speakers), the BEAST system in Birmingham (up to 100 speakers), GRM Paris as well as recent 8 and 4 channel formations.

Faculty member at the Institute of Sonology, Royal Conservatory in The Hague and currently teacher of algorithmic composition and computer music. Studied composition with Gerard Pape, Trevor Wishart, Agostino Di Scipio and Curtis Roads at the CCMIX music center in Paris. Holds a masters degree from Sonology completed with Paul Berg, Kees Tazelaar and Richard Barrett.

Currently working with algorithmic composition, generative environments, compositions and live electronics. Also working on new material with his long-lasting electronic music duo Einóma, and for MGBG, a duo of voice and electronics with Marie Guilleray.

Developed as an experiment in dynamically evolving sonorities,Ever-present Change merges live-coded sound with generative processes. The piece evolves through continuous interaction between algorithmic activity and manual intervention. Rather than presenting collections of successive sounds, the work delves into their formative principles, emphasising how sounds develop relationships through the technical processes that shape them.

Ever-present Change

Students of Decay presents The Dip, a new full-length recording by Berlin-based artist and composer Thomas Ankersmit, marking his debut with the label and sixth album to date. Comprised of two expansive, sidelong pieces composed entirely on the Serge Modular synthesizer, it signals a subtle yet significant shift in Ankersmit’s trajectory, imbuing the hyper-physical, psychoacoustic intensities of his live performances with introspective, atmospheric, and even melodic elements.
