While travelling through midwest America some time ago I stopped at a gasstation and bought a WWJD bracelet for $1.99 and insisted that it stood for ‘What Would Jens Do?’. I would look at it when I felt indecisive, think about what Jens really would do and then do the opposite of that. I thought that would be a good way to find some new paths in life, and to get away from the paths I kept taking that didn’t lead me anywhere good.

WWJD is a song about regrets, learning from your mistakes, and bettering yourself. I wrote it last year, recorded it quickly and felt it didn’t fit in with most of the other songs I was writing. Together with ‘What’s That Perfume That You Wear?’ and ‘I Remember’ they weren’t adhering to the rules I had set up for my next album but they were also too good to forget. So I weaved them in exclusively on this mixtape where they are stations on a longer journey, where loops and smaller fragments, ideas for songs and favourite songs by others swoosh by outside the window. Feel free to open that window and feel the breeze in your hair.

The Shins influence on modern indie music is immense - a key gateway band in a genius sphere of songwriting who celebrate the possibilities of what songcraft can do for the soul. An important band, who we were honoured to release their third album “Wincing the Night Away” with our friends at Sub Pop. 

As part of this campaign, we sought to bring the band over to the UK and Europe, and introduce them to a new audience in a way that we would all of our acts - with love, care, attention and an abundance of unique 7” singles. 

One of which saw an exclusive b-side - a cover of The Magnetic Fields, another legendary songwriting force from the USA, which we offer to you today for free download.

Foals are a special band - inspiring devotion from all quarters, morphing over the course of three albums and some incendiary singles from math-dance pioneers, to festival headliners attracting both critical and commercial success. They fucking rule.

This cut from their debut “Antidotes” was remixed by Henrick Schwartz, taking the brass laden, mournful bliss into new directions - expanding it into a downbeat house mood. The fact that this is 6 years old, is a testament to how ahead of the game this band are. Catch up.

Genius is an overused term. Often by me. Maybe even on these posts… But Cosmo lives up to it. 

It would be enough to create an experimental record including the sonic representation of the electromagnetic “clangs” that a new day brings on this Earth. It would be enough to create lush folk-tronic beats out of slates falling from mountains. It would be enough to write densely imaginative, hallucinogenic sound poems. But to do all of this, in one song, and wrap it in melodies that you’ll be humming all day. That’s special.

This early unreleased demo of his debut 7” “The Moss” on our ‘paradYse’ imprint is radically different from the final version, but leads you down the rabbit hole all the same.
