Originally hailing from an indie/folk-pop background the singer-songwriter has always been drawn to dark ambient vibes and ultimately found her footing in techno. Marrying the two influences Natascha Polké manages to interweave what might appear like an unusual match into sublime melancholic productions transcending stylistic boundaries. Driving beats and haunting pads are flattered by her intimate vocals, telling stories of blurring lines between reality and illusion, diving deep into unknown corners of the human mind.
�After living in London for several years and holding a residency at the Roundhouse (LDN), Natascha Polké now resides in Switzlerand and regularly DJs at Zurich’s Hive, as well as frequently playing events such as Klangheimlich and Motion Beach Festival. Her most recent merger is with the Swiss-based label Definition:Music, which has been making waves in the electronic scene since 2011 and launched the career of none other than the Ukrainian electro-duo ARTBAT. Whilst producing all tracks herself she mixed her 2021 EP in a collaboration with no other than Jan Blomqvist’s team in Berlin.
It’s easy to lose yourself in Natascha Polké’s music, get carried away by melancholic waves with an edge of longing, underpinned by pulsing bass lines and beats you can’t help but nod along to.

Monotunes? These are the two guys with that driving, deep sound. The DJ duo is less than two years old in this line-up and yet their musical language is already loud and clear. The story started with no less an event than the after show of the Pollerwiesen Festival in 2015 where Dortmund HipHop veteran Nils was to play his first electronic gig quite unexpectedly. Of course, Soulmate Philo had even more experience and endless buck at his side with lots of beer. A fat set and a dance floor full of enthusiastic people later, the Monotunes 2.0 were born. Since then the guys have been working meticulously on their sound. Producing podcasts, mixtapes and songs – sometimes in pairs, sometimes with support from their large musical network and using every free second they don’t spend with job or family. With his passion for ever new hardware, techno junkie Nils provides the tools that, together with Philos‘ many years of experience and creativity, form the perfect basis for the monotunes sound.

3 QUESTIONS to ANNA TUR:

Q: Let's get into the mood of your mix. How did you get in touch with electronic music once and what do these selected tracks still mean to you?

A: My contact with electronic music and music in general is very much influenced by my family. My parents have dedicated their whole lives to radio, my mother is presenter and journalist and my father in the managing side and very entrepreneur. He was the founder of Ibiza Global Radio 17 years ago, when the first electronic music radio station in Ibiza was also born with him, years before in Cadena 100, in regional disconnections with electronic music radioshows; it was an incredible movement on Ibiza. I continued the family saga, directing Ibiza Global Radio for 15 years. The story of my life goes through electronic music. I start that special mix expressing my life with music, with a track by Luciano (Rise Of Angel), that when I heard it the first time, it provoked a brutal emotion in me. Like a real ray of light... and I have it on my list of songs that I listen to at certain times, when I'm looking for relaxation or to connect with myself. I continue with other songs that make me feel good, that I can play in special moments, like a sunset, a moment at home with friends. I continue with classic tracks that have marked moments of my discovery of electronic music. House influence that runs through my veins, despite working mostly closer to techno, house is always present in me. I end with a small selection of tracks with which I have grown up and a very special last track, with which my father told me "I love you" for the last time. It was very difficult for him to say it even though he was a friendly and open person and with music, it was easier for him to express himself.

Q: From 100 to zero and back - from party to lockdown in repeat. How did you experience the past 1,5 years?

A: Personally, for me it has been a mental exercise of very intense work to make the most of it and live a rebirth. I was coming from a time of professional success but I had gone through many very sad moments on an emotional level, also living under constant stress. I could see during the pandemic that I thought I had everything and I was not really happy. Enslaved by my own professional and personal demands, I didn't have the "luxury" of taking time for myself; being with my family, meditating, exercising, eating well, taking care of myself. How important it is to take care of the body and mind!
On a professional level, I haven't stopped. I started my podcast adventure "On Air with Anna Tur", a 5 garment collection with Unreleased Wear, a collaboration with Dazn for UD Ibiza, in which I remixed the headliner for the great and only, Carl Cox. I've been trying to improve myself professionally and personally all the time. And for sure, I have to include and take to opportunity to say that I am very sorry that so many people have lost. Dramatic situations at the health, human, business and social levels. I hope this all ends soon.

Q: On which future projects are you currently working on?

A: I am working a lot in the studio. It's that part that I needed to develop and evolve and I couldn't find the time to do it. I have also been involved for a year in a new music and lifestyle project, experience, production and radio; it's called Balearica Music and it will be the music business centre par excellence on the island of Ibiza. We will operate from Ibiza to the rest of the world, a Balearic radio without borders or barriers. Balearica Music will be launched in "loading" format before the end of 2021. At the same time, I am very excited about my new label with Gonçalo and Hosse. Lowlita Records is a new project where our most creative part will be reflected with art; music and painting.
