03.04.2019 - Ooit gehoord van Frank Gari? Nee, wij eerlijk gezegd ook niet. Terwijl deze man – die 2 dagen geleden op 1 april 75 jaar werd – prachtige jinglepakketten heeft geschreven voor voornamelijk TV. Maar hij maakte ook een aantal jinglepakketten voor radio. een van de mooiste is dat voor 101 WCBS-FM in New York. Dat hoor je hier. 

Het rijkst werd hij mogelijk met het pakket Hello, dat aan minstens 120 TV-zenders in de VS, Canada, Latijns-America en Australië is verkocht. Eerste koper (Hello Milwaukee) was WISN-TV in Milwaukee, de versies Hello India, Hello Houston en Hello Georgia zijn nog steeds online te horen. 

Frank Gari werd in New York geboren als Frank Daniel Garofalo. Hij had vooral in de jaren ’60 enkele grote hits in de VS, waarvan Lullaby of Love, Princess en Utopia de hitparade haalden. Maar daarna kreeg hij landelijke bekendheid als componist van jingles en TV-tunes. 
Voorts maakte hij TV-tunes voor Eyewitness News, Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Phil Donahue Show, Sky News, RTL Television in Duitsland en veel meer. Aan ABC (American Broadcasting Company ) had hij een grote opdrachtgever. In de eerste helft van de jaren ’80 maakte hij alle campagnes voor deze TV-gigant, met titels als We're with you on ABC en Come on along with ABC. Ook componeerde hij Sky Symphony voor het Britse Sky. 

Op 12 januari 2015 is het complete oeuvre van Frank Gari verkocht aan de productiemuziek-tak van Warner/Chappell, die er echter online niets mee doet.

Morten Østergaard blev skubbet fra magten i Radikale Venstre, fordi han først blev afsløret i tykt hykleri og løgne, og fordi udfordreren Martin Lidegaard dernæst stod parat til at rane tronen. Men var kupforsøget planlagt? Eller opstod muligheden blot i den tilspidsede situation? Den mere midtersøgende Lidegaard så under alle omstændigheder sit snit til at overtage magten. Bag kulisserne handler sexopgøret nemlig om, hvor partiet skal placere sig politisk, og kupforsøget havde sågar opbakning fra den radikale nestor Marianne Jelved. I det dramatiske kampvalg i Den Sorte Diamant viste det sig dog straks, at Sofie Carsten Nielsen havde det store flertal i folketingsgruppen på sin side, og derfor blev hun kåret til ny partidronning. Men intrigerne vil fortsætte. Nedsmeltningen i Radikale Venstre har fuldstændig fjernet opmærksomheden fra  statsminister Mette Frederiksens åbningstale. Her gik hun ellers på strandhugst efter endnu flere borgerlige vælgere. På kynisk vis udnytter hun svagheden i blå blok til at stramme rets- og udlændingepolitikken yderligere. Hvor er Venstre blevet af? Og hvem er der overhovedet tilbage til at ønske Dansk Folkeparti tillykke med 25-års fødselsdagen? Thomas Qvortrup stiller spørgsmålene. First I extracted four-bar loops from the original source. Second, I treated them in the Kontakt Ensemble „Cycles“  from Slater & Ash, which is perfect if you want pulses that can go on a grid. Third it was arranging way many bits and finding some parts that could form a melody, which took at the longest. Lastly I added two shakers and some simple drums. 

Normally, it would sit there for a week, but as it’s the Disquiet Junto, the piece has to go tonight. Oh, and the intro reminded me of the chase sequence in detective story, hence the name.

**Disquiet Junto Project 0475: Low End (4 of 3)**

The Assignment: Remix a trio by doing forensics on its component parts.

Step 1: This week will involve remixing. The past three weeks, we’ve produced a large number of trios. These have been the result of a sequence of steps: first someone made a solo, then someone else turned it into a duet, and then someone else added a third element, making a completed work in the form of a trio. This week you will be remixing one of these trios, which you will source from the previous week’s Junto project (disquiet.com/0475).

Step 2: First, you must select the piece of music you will remixing. There are over 65 tracks in all to choose from, 62 as part of this playlist:

To select a track, you can listen through all that (warning: it’s a lot) and choose one, or you can use a random number generator. (Note: it’s fine if more than one person uses the same original track as the basis for their piece.)

Step 3: The simply stated goal is to remix the trio resulting from your selection process in Step 2. However, it is strongly encouraged that you locate the duet and the solo on which the trio is founded, and that you then employ those three tracks in your work. (In past projects like this one, some musicians have essentially extracted the other half of the duet by “removing” the solo from it, and done the same with the trio versus the duet.)

Step 4: As with last week, you can contribute more than one track this week. You can do up to two total. If you choose to do a second, you should preferably try to use a duet track that no one else has used yet. The goal is for many as people as possible to benefit from the experience of being part of an asynchronous collaboration. After a lot of detailed instruction, that is the spirit of this project.

**Production Notes**

Boy, this was a fun assignment! Don’t know about the other participants in this challenge, but it felt great to close my eyes and just start to play.  But first I learnt that it’s impossible to patch and play a three-row Modular blindfolded. There’s too much tactile information, too many knobs, and you get tangled in the cables. 

So I turned to the Cocoquantus for a gritty base pad sound. Finding knobs and patchpoints was much easier with this instrument. 

Next step was an Easel Command, which arrived just two weeks ago. I was quite nervous while playing it (still have a lot to learn), but actually, it was easier to wiggle than I thought. And it just felt great.  

Last step was the Moog Matriarch and its lovely delay. Again, I patched with my eyes closed, corrected a misplaced connection and started playing a bass, some chords and just some weird delay and filter sounds. 

Threw everything together in Ableton, pre-mastered in Ozone. Time spent: 3 hours.
