Morana (also: Marzanna, Marena, Morena, Mora) is an ancient Slavic goddess associated with winter's death, rebirth and dreams. In ancient rites her death at the end of winter becomes the rebirth of Goddess of Spring.

When I had half of the final composition, I had no idea how to develop it further. I sent a draft to Ramon Capsada Blanch https://soundcloud.com/ramon-capsada-blanch, the composer whom I appreciate very much for his unconventional, creative works. Ramon encouraged me to develop the piece further. One of his ideas was to mirror the first movement in such a way as to reverse the dynamics of the composition. As Ramon predicted, I've got the cresendo-culmination-decrescendo structure. I marked the axis of symmetry with a single sound of a triangle. Thank you Ramon!

eclipse/declipse

Chamber piece for cello, viola, oboe, bass clarinet, piano and choir. For some time I have been trying to move away from precise quantization of all notes. For example, the piano parts were played very spontaneously and I only edited the levels of some individual notes. I am also looking for non-obvious, dirty harmonies. In fact, the piece was composed using a chromatic scale, although certain sounds predominate (suggesting a specific scale but never fully achieving it). Enjoy!

Remains Of The Day

A short musical illustration of a hunt from the perspective of a chased animal.  The strings form the background for the story (the nature), while the parts of the clarinet represent the victim and the brass section is for chasers. I considered developing more the rhythm section, but felt it would upset the delicate balance between calm and anxiety (that I hope I have achieved)...
One more thing! I believe that the fox managed to escape and will have a story to tell his children.

"Animam Esurientem", Requiem in A Minor for Choir, Cello and Clarinet

Inspired by my reflections on the origin of the individual. Why, despite the development of techniques for recording and collecting information, our knowledge of the ancestors is still rudimentary. We only remember two generations back, when our great grandparents are just a shred of anecdotes and a few photos for us ... The farther the darker. Although our ancestors are our family, they are more alien to us than living friends. Paradoxically, along with the progress of technology, we lose other important relays - stories and myths. Not without significance is the cultural context, which disappears with the shrinking of the modern world.

String Quartet No 1, 'Loss Of Roots', Mov. I

'Core beliefs' are the basic beliefs about ourselves, other people and the outside world. Most often, we are not aware of their existence, despite the fact that they have a huge impact on our behavior. Shaped in early childhood they are hidden in the deep layers of our mind and it is quite difficult to change them. Many of our behaviors and life choices are not dictated by conscious choice, but through basic beliefs. Core beliefs may be good or bad for us and our environment - at the same time they determine our strength and weaknesses...

The human mind could be a wonderful cathedral - dignified, built over the years, diverse, full of details and nuances, at the same time homogeneous. And how fragile... A small spark can turn into a fire that will digest these splendors in a few moments. Of course, fire also has a purifying meaning, but what if you can't put it out?

Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the most outstanding contemporary composers, passed away on 29 March 2020. His statement about the love for trees:

"I am very interested in botany and have my own arboretum, the largest arboretum in Eastern Europe, with 1,700 species of trees. This is my second profession: hunting trees and collecting every year maybe 100 species. There is something about trees which you can't explain. I'm fascinated by them because they are always different. Each time of the year, they are different. It gives me another dimension. In the park, which I started 40 years ago, I started writing chamber music. It's a remote place. I have my trees around, and there is a silence—something in the atmosphere that you don't have in the city."

Originally I tried to arrange it for the synthesizers, but I was not happy with the results... So the bass line was taken over by the marimba, the lead was replaced by the piano, and the vibraphone works as a pad. If anyone familiar with electronic music would be interested in doing a remix for synths, I'd love to send him the midi tracks.
