There isn’t anything quite like getting lost in the foggy, twisting works that Alex Koenig makes as Nmesh.

His albums — 2013’s Nu.Wav Hallucinations and 2014’s Dream Sequins — were sprawling, overwhelmingly dense collage pieces made from commercials, samples from the depths of YouTube, and synth textures that ran from silly elevator Muzak to bad trip psychedelia to moments of startling beauty. As you stumbled through those sonic labyrinths you’d encounter others — disembodied voices, drifting through like ghosts. The chatter could shift from mundane to hilarious, from terrifying to emotionally resonant.

Still, his albums are laser-focused compared to the impossibly huge worlds Koenig builds on his mixes. His 260-minute (that’s 4.20 in hours) Welcome To The Warp Zone mix for TinyMixTapes moved through each of its extended thematic sections like some kind of giant, slow-breathing beast. It was an easy pick for our Bandcamp Release Of The Month — but more importantly, it was a clear sign that we had to get this guy to do FACT mix.

So now at just a single second over two hours, we present this double-wide FACT mix from Nmesh. It’s a hell of a ride, with a generous double-dip of LSD and all the peaks and valley that come with that. Here you’ll find the sonic trickery of iconic plunderphonics originator John Oswald holding court with anonymous vaporwave producers while Hype Williams and James Ferraro nestle in with Raymond Scott. It ties all these voices — young, old, dead, legendary, undiscovered, anonymous — together into a legacy of sonic adventuring with Koenig as a welcome host.

Hailing from the Russian city of Murmansk, AL-90 brings an all embracing dance sound perfectly in keeping with the Tape Throb Records ethos of distort, layer and rework. Littered with ghostly vocals and the blurred flush of multi layered beats, infectious bass moves the whole in rhythmic brilliance. The A sides, Cheremushki Groove and Fluid, will bring on dream of 90's VHS house with warm broken beats layered with lush vocal samples. The B side Cataract flies higher with a jungle storm waist deep in ambience and the EP closes with a distorted stomping rework of the title track by label founder The Cyclist.

From cult local beginnings on the Berlin circuit, Rødhåd is now very much part of the global DJ highway. What initially turned heads was his ability to hold down long and hypnotic sets of loopy, moody house and techno all masterfully mixed in immersive ways. His productions, too, mixed sparse ambient designs with rolling techno grooves on labels like Dystopian and Token, and just this month he put out his debut album, Anxious. It’s a filmic meditation on beautifully bleak and eerie sounds and is another reason we love the man after he turned in a memorable closing set on our UFO stage at this year’s Dekmantel Festival. 

Over a ninety minute live mix recorded recently, he gets more energised with plenty of hurried techno and urgent synth lines all tightly weaving round each other. It’s a high pressure and enchantingly linear set that touches on Millsian space vibes, industrialism and unhinged apocalypse music in one smoothly mixed and sequenced session that will leave you out of breath.

Nmesh - Mall Full Of Drugs (Chaos Heart Remix)

When we thought about adding a Drumfunk set to this mix drop only one man sprung to mind, Manchester's very own Earl Grey.

The producer/dj has spent the last few years gracing the scene with his recognisable funked up and laid back style of Jungle and Drum and Bass, with 
releases on labels such as Inperspective and Hypercharger to name few. 2020 saw the release of highly regarded HY CH AD which features the track 'Blue Rhythm', the opening tune of this mix and a perfect start for our Drumfunk feature mix.
