Flotation Device - Front Pocket

I'm going to start posting live tunes from gigs on the day in which they were performed in years past (streaming for a limited time only!). Here's our first edition -- from Oakland's Awaken Cafe, recorded 2/13/13, and featuring Kasey Knudsen (alto sax), Cory Wright (bass clarinet), Rebecca Kleinmann (alto flute), Sam Bevan (bass), Jon Arkin (drums), and Nathan Clevenger (guitar/composition). The tune is an unrecorded original called "The Discount Satanist."

Caveat emptor: Becoming accustomed to bootlegs early on in my own music development/nerdery has left me very tolerant of flawed live documents (I am particularly reminded of a 1961 Dolphy bootleg with McCory Tyner and co. that was reaaaally a test) -- please note that this particular recording is the most low-fi I will post as part of this series, and is overdriven to an extent that may be intolerable to some listeners. We get it, though I actually think it serves the energy of this tune in a fun way (while, alas, obscuring the more subtle harmonic business in the horns...that's what studio recordings are for!). At any rate, should your audiophile standards be closer my own compromised level, please enjoy!
