Twenty Year Weekend (Two Decades of Darkroom Dubs) is the twenty-anniversary label compilation compiled and curated by Glasgow's Silicone Soul. Rather than take the retrospective route, they mark twenty years since they launched one of the UK's most revered underground house music labels with a new collection of music from a fresh global roll call who like it deep, dark and a little twisted.

Parisian DJ/ producer Id!r, whose Darkroom Dubs missives include 2016's bass bin shredding Two Days In Hell, pulls off a typically dark, simmering groove beast on Haowie, topped with a gargling robo-vocal hook.

Adrián Peña Sánchez (Calystarr), is a DJ, producer and electronic researcher from Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz). His style could be compared like night and day, on the one hand, dynamism and depth and on the other, elegance and freshness. Their sounds are full of psychedelic atmospheres full of harmony using nuances and resources, in most cases, of a retrospective nature. Calystarr usually works under many musical influences, betting mostly on retro and underground indie sounds. In their sets and productions it is common to hear Nudisco, Italo, Classic House, New Beat, Indie Dance, Acid, EBM and Dark Disco styles.

The enigma of The Black Devil Disco Club:

More than 30 years after the first album, the ‘extremely rare disco masterpiece’ got a follow up, an epic journey into the deepest electronic disco, full of haunting vocals, warped lyrics, twisted yet melodic electronics and crisp disco beats.

In 2004 Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label released an album by Black Devil called Disco Club, a re-issue of a long lost supposedly ‘italo disco’ classic from 1978. Given it’s absurdly ‘modern’ sound many doubted it’s authenticity, some even suggesting that it was a collaboration between Richard James and Luke Vibert.

The real story is stranger still. Although credited to Joachim Sherylee and Junior Claristidge with executive production by Jacky Giordano, the album was actually the work of obscure French producer Bernard Fevre known only for his incredibly rare electronic masterpiece ‘The Strange World of Bernard Fevre’ and the even rarer ‘Earthmessage ‘ as sampled by the Chemical Brothers on ‘Got Glint?’ - from their ‘Surrender’ album (1999)

From 2006 new records have been released by Lo Recordings: innovative music so ahead of its time that Black Devil Disco Club can still be considered as avant-garde.

Black Devil Disco Club is still producing new gems and touring worldwide in the best clubs and festivals.

One thing’s for sure, you will never hear a more unusual or beguiling electronic dance music.
