Miss Kittin & The Hacker are the Electro duo of Caroline Hervé and Michel Amato from Grenoble, France. The pair met during the early 90s at a rave and soon after bought turntables and began DJing. In 1996, their collaboration began, writing music heavily influenced by the 80s post punk bands Fad Gadget, DAF, Liaisons Dangeuresues, Yazoo as well as Italo Disco. Bored by the techno scene at the time, the pair set out to lighten the seriousness and add a camp sexiness. Upon hearing their demos DJ Hell signed them to his Munich-based International DJ Gigolo label and released their first 2 EPs in 1998 and 1999. Their debut album ”First Album" is released in 2001 and pioneers the electroclash movement of the early 2000’s. 

“Lost Tracks Vol. 1” contains 4 previously unreleased demos recorded between 1997 and 1999.  Distancing themselves from the hard techno produced in Europe at the time, the duo fused 80’s European New Wave/Italo Disco with 90’s Detroit Electro acts like Le Car and Dopplereffekt. Somewhat unorthodox, their sound has a song-like format, based on the verse-chorus pop schema of the 80s music they grew up listening to. Song arrangements are direct, spontaneous, seemingly unplanned, and mainly generated with some synths, a beat box and a microphone. Their studio set up at the time was a Korg MS-20, Roland SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Siel DK80, and Boss DR-660 drum machine. Distinguished by Miss Kittin's French accented voice, full of derision, she sings about falling in love with an alien, sexy nightlife in Berlin and explicit S&M leather play.

All songs have been transferred from the original DAT tapes by the band and mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The vinyl comes housed in glossy jacket featuring a never seen before black and white photo of the duo taken in 1996. Each LP includes a postcard with liner notes from Miss Kittin and The Hacker designed by Eloise Leigh. As Miss Kittin says of these demos, “We were naive, innocent, adventurous and we didn’t expect anything in return”.

Medical Records releases the first full length LP in 5 years by LA’s Geneva Jacuzzi. To say Jacuzzi is a multifaceted artist would be an understatement. She is well known for her uncompromisingly obtuse synth-driven pop and one-of-a-kind performance art that is comprised of one time only spectacles and installations. Her works have been presented in famous art institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA and numerous other venues across the globe. She has developed a very focused cult following in the art AND music scenes. She was originally well known for her multitude of self-released home recordings but also released a full length Lamaze in 2010 on the Vinyl International to much acclaim. Not to mention her track The Sleep Room featured on The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol 2. Technophelia is the culmination of a hybrid of DIY and professional studio recordings (with the help of esteemed producer Chris Coady) that resulted in this exquisite album. Features the soon-to-be-hits I’m A TV and Cannibal Babies. Lovers of unique and left-field wave such as Gina X, Ronny, and the like will be transfixed by the raw, oozing newness of it all. The enigma of The Black Devil Disco Club:

More than 30 years after the first album, the ‘extremely rare disco masterpiece’ got a follow up, an epic journey into the deepest electronic disco, full of haunting vocals, warped lyrics, twisted yet melodic electronics and crisp disco beats.

In 2004 Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label released an album by Black Devil called Disco Club, a re-issue of a long lost supposedly ‘italo disco’ classic from 1978. Given it’s absurdly ‘modern’ sound many doubted it’s authenticity, some even suggesting that it was a collaboration between Richard James and Luke Vibert.

The real story is stranger still. Although credited to Joachim Sherylee and Junior Claristidge with executive production by Jacky Giordano, the album was actually the work of obscure French producer Bernard Fevre known only for his incredibly rare electronic masterpiece ‘The Strange World of Bernard Fevre’ and the even rarer ‘Earthmessage ‘ as sampled by the Chemical Brothers on ‘Got Glint?’ - from their ‘Surrender’ album (1999)

From 2006 new records have been released by Lo Recordings: innovative music so ahead of its time that Black Devil Disco Club can still be considered as avant-garde.

Black Devil Disco Club is still producing new gems and touring worldwide in the best clubs and festivals.

One thing’s for sure, you will never hear a more unusual or beguiling electronic dance music.
