"Surrender to the Process" was the affirmation that got me through birth and a gem I hold dearly.

Black Girl Magik is a kind of medicine that comes straight from our DNA that is nurturing, expansive & firm. A real reminder that we are a vital link to source. A reflectin of earth, the cosmos & beyond.

Dark Matter, a Century of Speculative Fictions From the African Diaspora & Self Publish Be Happy. 

What Black Woman has influenced you?
My mother would definitely be first. Lately we've been having a lot of long conversations on life and relationships, which is making the influence more clear. Sobonfu Some is someones words I frequently return to. There are many Black Women in The Bay that have been strong lights during different stages of my growth : Melorra & Melonie Green, Regina Evans, Karen Senefuru, Ashara Ekundayo. All the women that were in Malidoma Collective, because the bonds are so pure. The whole House of Malico squad. My peers, my partners, my friends, my council. Those that I build with on the 1 on 1. The list goes on and on.

Describe your DJ style in 3 words
Eclectic, Soulful, Nostalgic 

When thinking about the future sonically, what sounds come to mind?
An array of different instruments come into my mind when thinking about the future: horns, synthesizers, drums (all percussion instruments really) and the power of the voice. 

How has sound allowed you to imagine a future outside of the present moment?
The only time I'm not caught up in my mental headspace is when I'm listening to music or allowing sound to speak to my body through dance. Music has healed me in more ways than I can express and i'm sure that same goes for a lot of folks. Growing up, my mother blared music in the house for the good times, but especially the hard times, the moments of heartbreak. The music was able to transcend any pain out of her body and know that all will be okay. Throughout my life I've done the same, used music as a tool to uplift myself and those around me. 

Where do you hear music going in the future?
I hear music going back to the essence of purity, of complete rawness. A lot of artist are creating their own lanes and not being subjected to what a label has envisioned for the future. Music will go as far as our consciousness allows it to. 

What does Black Girl Magik mean to you?
Black Girl Magik for me means reclaiming ancestral knowledge and honing in on the wisdom that runs through my veins daily. It means loving my self, deeply and truly to then give that same love back to my brothers and sisters. It means tuning into my magic because I am the great granddaughter of the witches they couldn't burn.

What Black Woman has influenced you?
In my early adolescence my next door neighbor Carol played a huge role in my unveiling of the matrix. She would always knock on the door whether it be for sugar, milk, to share some food she cooked or just to have a friendly conversation. She was an ex Marine, mother and did not have any hair on her tongue. She would always talk to me about her days as a youth, fighting for social justice and how we need to take part in uplifting our society by speaking up. We are still really cool to this day and I do my best to knock on her door whenever I visit my grandmother.
