Been feeling inspired since Burning Man 2022 to throw it down more often. Here's a mix of deep and progressive house with a taste of disco. This is just the beginning.

Hibernation vol. 1

Got caught in some intense winds on this one. It brought me back to the playa at Burning Man, so I wanted to get in the mix in the harsh conditions. It goes on a journey of deep, melodic vibes. Enjoy!

Hibernation vol. 5 - Afro Deep Edition

This week's edition is a deeply personal one. Maybe about a year or so ago, one of my closest friends asked me to DJ at his wedding. This meant the world to me. He's a musician himself. He and my wife and a few friends even had a band together in college (Almost All Purpose forever!), and his partner is such a beautiful soul. So when he asked me, I felt honored. I had to do it. First, I spun a mix at his joint bachelor/bachelorette party in Palm Springs (some of the earlier Hibernation sets). And now, here was my chance to share my love for music with friends and (literal and chosen) family in one of the most beautiful spaces I've been in: The Sky Theater at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. Here's my ode to all things Chicago house with some space vibes thrown in. And midway thru the set, during a brief transition, there's a really special song that I play that hits home for me because my parents were at this wedding, and they used to dance with my familia to this when I was growing up. Please give this one a listen.

1 to 1 Wednesdays EP 121 | Black Panda Special Guest Mix

This week, we have a special extended mix for you. I recently hopped on my dear friend Girl Wunder's show, Virtual Voyager, on Radio Free Brooklyn. She gave me a theme: Space! So I decided to take listeners on a melodic journey through space and time. The first hour released on July 7, with one longtime friend and listener calling it "transcendent." That captures what I aimed for, and I can't wait for you to listen. Here's the full two-hour set I sent to Girl Wunder. The second hour will hit the airwaves in October. For now, enjoy!

I will be recording a couple that I didn't get to record out there from a sunrise moment on the Janky Barge art car and a funky sunrise set at Bubbles & Bass that didn't happen because of the epic storm. 

Long before the storm, I jammed with the crew at the camp Santo Cabron and brought in the sunset vibes atop the aEyeclops art piece. It was such a beautiful view of the entire city, and I immensely want to thank Love My Robot aka Carolina and Rey Solo aka my BIPOC Beats Collective co-lead Juan for having me and for letting me share space with ya.

Sunset Party @ aEyeclops - Burning Man 2023

What a whirlwind at Burning Man 2023. I'm slowly combing through my USBs and gathering all the sets. I will be recording a couple that I didn't get to record out there from a sunrise moment on the Janky Barge art car and a funky sunrise set at Bubbles & Bass that didn't happen because of the epic storm.

We had to bring the dance party with the fine folks at Camp FUego. I was worried for a second when the fire spinners had to stop because of the winds and impending dust storms. But the crew ended up dancing the night away, and I'm so thankful for the FUego crew and DJ Othaside for giving me that space to experiment.

Chicago/Detroit House Classics @ Camp FUego - Burning Man 2023

One of my favorite sets from the playa this year. It's a rollicking adventure thru some killer House classics. It's funky and powerful and full of high vibes, just as our friends at the camp, Sound Garden, hoped for. They have arguably the best sound system at Burning Man. It was beautiful to play there. I'm excited to share this one. Give it some love.

A truly unforgettable night at Audio SF. It was my debut at this club where I had seen so, so many amazing artists. I'm so thankful I shared it with my dear friend 1 to 1. We packed the house for Romain Garcia, who played such a beautiful set for his San Francisco debut. Thank you to all who showed up and danced and showed out. It was magical. Relive the magic!

Threw down with the Disco Donutz crew in Oakland over weekend. What a beautiful community. Shoutout to the Disco Donutz x Heavy Petting Zoo crew for having me and to all the dancers and DJs who showed up throughout the day. I had to give the people some House music love.

I included a special addition at the end of the set featuring songs from the crew's monthly Fam Jam, a B2b2b2betc of all the DJs and HPZ residents/fam. Had to bring some Latin flavor to that. Of course it worked. Enjoy!

Black Panda | Disco Donutz x Heavy Petting Zoo | 09.17.23

This Burn was challenging. The rain and mud cancelled one of the moments I was most excited for: Sunrise with the Bubbles & Bass crew. I've loved the vibes from that camp for years, from watching/listening to folks there like @N2Nmusic and David @Hohme, and it was a dream in itself to be chosen to play. I got to see some dope folks earlier in the week, including my homie Goma one afternoon and an all-femme lineup another morning. The energy and love were so high! 

With this one, I wanted to give a little funk, a little soul, a little Latinidad, and a little history (and an homage to Osunlade at the end, who would have also played that Saturday morning.) I felt drawn to record the music that would have inspired the moment. Unforgettable. Thanks so much to StephyV and Lidia Lo (who would've played after me!) for the encouragement!

Black Panda @ Bubbles & Bass (Sort of) | Burning Man 2023 Sunrise

What a lovely night at Monarch on 11/11. My homie @stephyVdj and I took over the Monarch lounge as @Syd-Gris and @thescumfrog made magic in the basement. It was an evening full of musical appreciation, and I’m grateful for every moment. 

I opened up the night with this set expressing such a range of House music love, from Chicago and Detroit classics from legends like Todd Terry to contemporary tracks from the likes of Homero Espinosa, Floorplan, Jamie Jones, Gene Farris, Sam Divine, and more from the Defected archives.

This week, we've got a special memory from earlier this month when I played a B2B with my homie @djpixxie during a Polaris and Friends takeover of the RIDE stage at The Midway in San Francisco. It happened during an incredible day at Nora En Pure's Purified Block Party. It was a dream come true to play on the same day as one of my favorite artists and inspirations. 

I've got the raw, unedited recording of our set for anyone who wants to listen (it includes me and Taylor bantering, and the sound is accidentally drawn from my iPhone mic. DM me if you want to relive that moment.) But here's a set I recorded solo before the event. I'll call it my interpretation of the B2B set.

So thankful for the folks who put this event together. It was truly beautiful.

A Night at Nora En Pure's Purified Block Party (Black Panda’s Version)

I had the honor of taking the fine folks at F8 on a true journey at Teego's Afro Thursdays event. I've gone to this before a couple of times supporting my homie Goma, but this was my debut as an artist. And it was absolutely lovely.

MK Live @ 1015 Folsom - Dec 2024

I had the pleasure of playing for the incredible New York-based Burning Man camp Bubbles & Bass on New Year's Day. 

We had some unforeseen issues with the mixer recording, so this one is truly live: It's drawn from my camera's internal microphone so the quality may be more raw than usual. You'll hear chatter in the background, including my own. I tried my best to reduce it. 

Still, I wanted to share this bit of history for me: It was my first time getting booked in my hometown, New York City. Sincerest gratitude to the @bubbles-and-bass fam for having me. Here's to many, many more memories together.

I had an incredible time jamming out with the Palette crew on February 8 in San Francisco. I followed the homie @dwata and her hypnotic breaks, techno, and bass-heavy set with a soulful house moment with a special surprise toward the end. It was a beautiful, chocolate-themed affair. I had an incredible weekend at my first unSCruz, the Burning Man regional event in Northern California. I had the pleasure of playing sunset sets on back to back nights with the Heavy Petting Zoo fam at their stage with Entheos and The Sound Garden. Writer by day, DJ by night. I'm Eddie Rios aka Black Panda. An Oakland-based DJ and producer with a deep appreciation for all things house, especially afro, deep, melodic, progressive, and classic. Co-lead of the BIPOC Beats Collective, a group of BIPOC Burners who want to diversify musical spaces on and off playa. I've also joined DJ/producer Justin Jay's production bootcamp for 2023-2024. 

Music builds an emotional connection and creates a connective tissue between mind, body, and soul. I'm hoping to make every moment memorable.
