This track was produced in honor of Islan Nettles and power of trans lives. Islan was a young black transwomen who was attacked and killed in Harlem last August, in her name  I created this track because I celebrate her life and black trans lives everyday.

This is dedicated to my wife Olympia Perez, who inspires me beyond measure.

In April 2015 Black Trans Media collaborated with StoryCorp in NYC to host a day long recording session for black trans and gender non conforming New Yorkers to share their stories and experiences. It was a beautiful day of deep, funny, sad, wise, powerful intergenerational storytellers speaking on everything from NYC history to coming out at work, love, and the intersection so being black and trans.
 
In this powerful interview hear from Miss Kim on everything from growing up to having kids, health and wellness, and the importance of supporting family. 

These stories are archived at the Library of Congress, among places, and are the first of a historic set of stories recorded in partnership. Today 8/15/15 as part of our #BLACKTRANSEVERYTHING Film Festival we're launching these stories publicly, and hosting a Opening Listening Party not to be missed at the Maysles Cinema in Harlem from 2-4pm, we're also preparing a zine that will include parts of the stories which will be released in the coming month.
