A major police operation is currently underway in Mannheim city center

According to the city's police headquarters, a car has driven into a group of people. One person was killed

The incident took place near Mannheim's pedestrian zone not far from the water tower

These are horrific images in the early afternoon after the crime here in Mannheim city center. Debris everywhere, people lying on the ground, some fighting for their lives

As things stand at the moment, a vehicle apparently crashed through the "Planken", the main shopping street in Mannheim city center, at around 12:15 pm

According to information, the perpetrator is a 40-year-old German man
