Black Gladiator is making with the freak freak with a new EP from Madison, WI garage turkeys THE HUSSY... and FINALLY! This dude / dudette duo has been lighting shit on fire for a few with three full lengths, more than a handful of singles, and a brutal live show that they’ve taken across the USA a hundred times over. We put the gangsta lean on ‘em to deliver a single that fits the truly unruly BG grime agenda, so they knocked out two hyper, nasty break having punk rock nugs for the A-side. “Way With Words” and “Yr Stupid” clock in breakneck at less than three minutes total. Mortelle. But this single is ultimately built around a track for the DJ’s that the Black Gladiator Sound Lab spent over a year perfecting for the dancefloor. We snagged the swinging, Heather Hussy led “Wrong Right” off their debut LP on Slow Fizz and hooked up with Cleveland, Ohio’s E.REACT to remix this shit FRESH as a double vision four-on-the-floor shaking bbbllluuurrr with a funky fly Bo Diddley soul clap. Prepare yourselves for a superdope psych-punk thrashing from the lunatic minds behind Montreal’s CPC Gangbangs, Red Mass and Duchess Says. This new amalgamated group is called PYPY (π π), and this debut LP “Pagan Day” is a mind searing concoction of sinister wah-wah freakouts littered with fuzz, distortion and the necromantic scree of co-lead singer Annie-Claude Deschênes. Super disco-breaks reminiscent of the dance punk of NYC’s legendary 99 Records (ESG / Liquid Liquid) slither in on “Daffodils,” and the blistering pop of “She’s Gone” rivals Thee Oh Sees most burning tracks. Add all of this to one of the finest recording sessions we’ve ever heard here at Black Gladiator / Slovenly HQ, and you got yourself a prime moving platter for your heaviest rock’n’roll club soirees and claw-your-eyes-out solo home listening sessions.

PYPY - Too Much Cocaine

If any punk album in 2016 is going to transcend description it’s this debut long player from KCMO’s WET ONES. I can tell you that the band is made up of ex-members of FAG COP who released some of the most aurally offensive and insipid shit this side of THE FATALS and GRABBIES, and more recently, WHITE LOAD. There’s a couple MOUTHBREATHERS in there too. Talk about an underappreciated band. One of ‘em shelled out some seriously disgusting cuts here with “I Live Life Reckless” and “Static,” and after a hundred spins they are finally starting to sound somewhat palatable. How did they even make this record? Shouldn’t they be broken up already? Nothing this screwy ever lasts for more than a few minutes these days. They assure me that they’re the best of friends and are immune to implosion, but this is not the sound of a trustworthy group. Oh well. For now this gets the coveted Black Gladiator / Slovenly seal of approval, and we’ll whip their asses raw ‘til they give us more.

WET ONES -Wet Ones- - 06 I Live Life Reckless

The Black Gladiator /  Slovenly brotherhood is in the business of pushing punk crudity like it’s going out of style (it ain’t), and with this debut LP by Michigan’s CHOKE CHAINS there’s no mistaking our intentions. Thomas Jackson Potter, he of ‘90s Crypt Records legends BANTAM ROOSTER and an original member of DIRTBOMBS, has concocted another nasty recipe for disaster with this latest unit featuring The Millionaire (ex-CHINESE MILLIONAIRES) on drums, Lindsey Crappor, (ex-NO BAILS) on 2nd guitar, and bass handled by a ballistic warlock named Chizz. Taboo tackling cuts like “Let’s Try Suicide” and “Rock Paper Rapist” guarantee deep emotional scarring, and the album’s opener “Safe Word” thrusts supercharged negativity transferral with terminal raunch. This is a cocksure debut from a battle-scarred crew, saturated with hostile imagery and the hyper-aggressive delivery you’d expect from pedigree of this caliber.

At long last, Black Gladiator and Slovenly boldly present the first ever reissue of the infamous “Eat Hot Lead” LP from San Fernando Valley’s PUKE SPIT & GUTS! Fully authorized by the band’s surviving members, this project was ten years in the making, and originally slated for re-release by Alternative Tentacles. Here’s Jello Biafra, as quoted from Re/Search’s “Incredibly Strange Music vol. II” tome:

“Most extreme of all in music and attitude was PUKE SPIT & GUTS from Southern California - their album was subtly titled Eat Hot Lead. They’re none to subtle about how much they hate having to play with punk bands, even though they sound like them. In L.A. they even had a run-in with an original D.C. hardcore band, The Teen Idles (Ian MacKaye pre-Minor Threat; Henry Rollins was their roadie). Seems Ian borrowed their bass amp and blew it up. P.S.& G. chased them all over the parking lot outside Madame Wong’s (a punk club)!”

A crew of spirited So. Cal. weirdos, as opposed to mere punks, Puke Spit & Guts released the LP on their own Important Records label in 1980. Members Donny Death, Captain Worm, Dick Head (real name!), Marie Manslaughter and Stuicide assembled this absurdist and raunchy LP with the unholy shrieks of human victims being fed into a countertop blender between each track. On the opening cut - the PS&G theme - Death declares most bizarrely and brazenly “Sex Pistols couldn’t hold their liquor, Ramones wear tennis shoes! Alice Cooper is a party pooper, we’re the punk band for youuuu!” On “Kill for Kicks” he proclaims “I’m so tired, I’m so bored, I don’t wanna live no more! Life is a fucker and I’m a whore!” And it only gets weirder from there. Marie Manslaughter lets you know if you wanna get some of her fine lovin’ you gotta self-mutilate on “Send Me Your Ear,” and even then, anal sex is outta the question on “You Ain’t Never.” We’re not even gonna attempt to tell you What Captain Worm is yelling about on the title track.

This one-in-a-million scumbag rarity makes a killer companion to your Mentors, Jabbers, Broken Talent, and We’re Loud records. Originally a 10 song tape titled "Dropouts In a Drug Haze," we opted for the perfect first side only of the original release to bring you three tracks of stone cold punk rock headache sandwiched between two slices of drum breaks and bent guitars slathered with methamphetamine psychosis. Electric Crush represents the sound of Black Gladiator before it even existed, and we couldn't be happier we located him after all these years! Musical parallels to Muddy Waters classic late 60s fuzz guitar driven, break-beat ridden "Electric Mud" are plenty, so we came up with this take on the elusive & bold black cover of "'Mud." Limited edition of 300 copies!

Athens duo HAND & LEG is the unit that has popped our intercontinental cherry with their debut, self-titled album of throbbing arthouse post-punk, sonically akin to the more stripped-down elements of the French glue-wave scene. Iro (f: bass guitar) and Stelios (m: drums) bleed gross distortion over grinding sex beats with precision, alternating vox on tributes to unlikely American folk gods Dave van Ronk and Lester Bangs, while channeling the traditional, Minoan minimal music of Crete to complete their primitive manifesto: The Kritikal Beatdown.
