The brains behind popular Newcastle party brand, Jaunt, Blackhall & Bookless are more than your average, cookie-cutter DJ duo. But don't take our word for it. Their impressive productions and seamless DJ sets speak for themselves, plus supporting slots alongside dance music's biggest names since 2007 — think Kerri Chandler, Omar S, Dixon, Ben Klock, Kyle Hall, Steffi, Marcel Dettmann and French trio, Apollonia.

The duo regularly host their Jaunt nights at the Newcastle branches of Circoloco, We Love and Zoo Project, plus flitting back and forth to the White Isle during the summer. The Jaunt Podcast attracts a whopping 300,000 subscribers each month, whilst their Jaunt Records imprint has played host to Fred P, Virginia and their own stellar productions.

Their exclusive DJ Mag podcast reflects their live aesthetic; it's a heady, vinyl-only trip through the realms of punchy dub house and tough metallic techno. This Saturday, Blackhall and Bookless are set to step up to the EGG club's famous terrace - alongside headline sets from Omar S and Sven Weisemann – as part of the DJ Mag Sessions Weekender.

DJ Mag Ibiza Sunset Sessions - LIVE Stream - 25.08.16

Monday morning's can be difficult to fathom. They don't make sense. This may be due to the brain cells lost the weekend before, or it may just be the general effect of an early start.

However, our Monday mix series is here to help, ambient and eclectic, let yourself become absorbed. The founders of Jaunt Records have stepped up to deliver us an assortment of music old and new. Blackhall and Bookless were originally known for their hugely succesful parties which they formed in Newcastle back in 2007, fast-forward some ten years later and the pair have become producers in their own right. Their self released debut EP featured remixes from the likes of Fred P & Virginia and received critical acclaim from far and wide. Blackhall and Bookless represent some of the strongest elements of British electronic music, with little more than a diy outlook and some warehouses they have now built fully fledged musical careers from the grassroots up.

Jaunt is a beacon for house and techno in Newcastle. It's also a clubbing institution currently celebrating a landmark 10 years in the game. Thanks to them, Newcastle has had some it's most memorable nights; Omar S, Dixon, Marcel Dettmann, Kerri Chandler and countless other global icons have all walked through the Jaunt doors. At it's helm are duo Blackhall & Bookless. As DJs and producers, the childhood friends have become just as esteemed as the Jaunt name they front, offering releases on Tough Luck, Vitalik and their own label.

Now London-based, they did us the honour of opening the Sputnik Dome on Friday night at FM2017. Delving into the tougher edges of their record bags, they have delivered a serious dose of euphoric techno, 4/4 inspirations from the motor city and a hefty kick to transport us back to their set from the FM field.

Chris Blackhall and Chris Bookless are two DJs and producers hailing from the UK. They’ve been extremely tight-knit for a number of years: they DJ together as Blackhall & Bookless, and both run one of the country’s best house and techno parties, Jaunt. Since launching in Newcastle over a decade ago they’ve now got their own Jaunt Records imprint, the main place you’ll hear their taste for deep house and techno aside from watching them play together. We’ve got the chance to witness this first hand this summer, as they’re joining us in Serbia for Exit Festival and at our upcoming launch party on 26th May. This week they sent us an all-new mix ahead of the dates, describing the recording in their own words as “a soulful journey through different fields of techno. Our reflection of Room Two.”

Following on from Daniela La Luz's brilliant live set for our last edition, the twelfth podcast in our series is also a live recording – this one capturing a very special night for UK techno and house mavens Blackhall & Bookless. 

Originally from Newcastle, now based in London, and regularly blowing up spots on the road all over the world with their aptly named Jaunt parties, this pair of lifelong friends turned DJ and production partners have seen their star steadily rise the real way, over the long haul. The Jaunt name and vibe has now crystallised into a label with B&B's own work alongside releases and remixes from peers like Fred P., Virginia, Hiver and Luke Hess.

This live mix was recorded last November at Zouk in Singapore, where B&B opened for none other than Jeff Mills. The duo's clear mastery of the special art of warming up for a legend – especially one with such a famously energetic style – makes for a perfect podcast experience. This set's precision dynamics, lush atmosphere and slowly building intensity, over 80 minutes of pulsating techno styles ranging from minimal to leftfield to four-to-the-floor, come into their own here, demanding fascinated repeat listens.
