Russian producers Talking Body & Groovie Movin are new editions to the electronic music community and we welcome to Love & Other with arms open wide! Talking Body released his debut on the brilliant ‘Chill Your Mind’ imprint in 2020 and has impressively gone on to do 1.2 Million streams at Spotify and has gone on to gain supporters such as Sophie Francis, Michael Calfan, Sam Feldt, The Him, and MusicbyLUKAS.  Collectively, the boys produce emotional uplifting house with a nod to the dancefloor and the heart, ‘Feel So Good’ is a brilliant ‘feel good’ nostalgic banger destined for big things!

My first mix of the year is a love letter to one of, if not my favourite record label of all time, Strictly Rhythm.

The first record I ever played on my first pair of decks (Pro 150 belt drives) was Underground Solution - Luv Dancin', which is also the first track on this mix, though admittedly not that version. I don't know exactly what it was that drew me to Strictly but it became pretty much buy on sight, which had its own problems as no two releases were the same back then, it was all over the place.

This mix features a few you will most definitely know and a few you probably don't. I am pretty sure this will be volume one of a few but for now get stuck in to this one.

This week we’ve got Mexico’s hottest disco artist and the man who was number 2 Nu-Disco DJ for Traxsource in 2021: Hotmood. 

The owner of Discoweey records, Hotmood's style reflects his production. Combining slow boogie and groove laden disco along with house and 70’s funk. Always adept at reading a crowd due to decades in the games plus a wealth of experience behind the decks. 

He’s played all over the globe including Singapore, Colombia, San Diego, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and his tracks have been supported by the likes of Simon Dunmore, Art Of Tones, Melvo Baptiste, Claptone along many more. This is one to ensure you are strapped in for!

Jackies Music House Session #192 - "Serge Gee"

Serge Gee:
Born in Mexico City, since 2001 Serge Gee has been a DJ and producer of Drum and Bass, which was one of the most important at that time in the local musical scene. 
In 2009 he moved to his current city, Guadalajara, where he started to play in restaurants, bars and clubs different genres, including house acid jazz and lounge music. In 2013, with stable knowledge already, he started producing Deep House music. 
It was at this time when Sugar Shack put their eyes on him and made him decide to dedicate himself completely to House music. 
Serge Gee is generating his own music style under the influences of Funk, Jazz, Soul, Latin and Deep.
Serge Gee is now a good exponent of Mexican house and one of the most important DJ's and producer of Guadalajara Mexico. His style and dynamism have taken him to share stage with: Mark Farina, Sonny Fodera, Vitor Munhoz and others.

*A note from eks:
Growing up it seemed like all of my favorite mix tapes had Mazi tracks, so making an entire mixtape of them made perfect sense.
 
I've always loved how versatile Mazi is as a producer, so my main goal for this mix was to showcase the breadth of his work under various pseudonyms. Indeed, Mazi has a track for any mood.  If you want something low and slow with amazing vocals "Do You Want Me" is one of the best. Need  a 134 bpm all-major-chord banger happier than bunnies cumming sunshine? Check out "Refill?".   How about a minimal tech track that is psychedelic and groove-heavy? Easy!  Mazi is producing loads of them under the name Audio Soul Project.  
 
Not to mention that under the pseudonym Studio Nova, he was a pioneer of the filtered sound that defined Disco House in the late 90s. "The Reason We Took It Underground" is still one of the best records I've ever heard to this day.  After 25 years not only does it still sound fresh, even the social messaging is still relevant. It's confirmation that we were absolutely on the right track back then.  Something still worthy of our time now.  And that makes it all the more special.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

As the name states, BHOP was born during Danny’s time spent in Panama City and the surrounding rainforests. However Danny’s musical career started in the DJ booths of many of Ibiza’s finest clubs and bars back in the heady days of the 90s.
These days Danny finds himself more comfortably nestled in the studio with the Black Hawks of Panama project forged based on experiences and musical tales of the past and present. Whilst looking to the future, BHOP music tells the story of Danny’s intrepid journey
