--------------------------------------------------------------------The day has finally come. What started as a demo for my personal consume while I was composing the soundtrack for XPerimentalTechno, derived in the idealization of a debut album for BlackJacketBear. The first step was the release of "Gamegun - EP" in October '22, to be followed by a revised version of this EP in January '23, "Gamegun (Re-Worked) - EP". Many wonderful things have happened during these 16 months, my first single in January being "The Big Race", a dedicatory single in May ("Nature"), and a single that would precede "Shakedown" ("Lose Control"). However, the ambition and thematic of the project made its execution a difficult task even in 16 months. And I reference a line from the last episode of "Amphibia:" "The hardest thing is let go that you love, but you'll be surprised to see that some of what you let go of comes back to you." That quote bury an agonizing "Shakedown," no more; there will be no "Shakedown" this October, or in 2024, or ever. It's time to let go the coronavirus pandemic, it's time to let go the 2020, more if it didn't bring many good things. An album focused on those dark times -in my opinion- doesn't have a meaning anymore on the eve of 2024.
That's where "Origin" comes in. Since the release of "Gamegun - EP" I was suggesting the release of my first album for October '23. The date was finally set for October 27th, and although "Shakedown" presented many difficulties along the way, contemplating its cancellation or delay until 2024, I really didn't want to let this October 27th pass empty-handed. Some instrumentals conceived for "Shakedown" were finished, others were left unfinished, and none of the songs got a definite lyric. So, in view of the inevitable cancellation of "Shakedown" I thought: "well, I have some songs finished in instrumental version. Why not release them?".
"Origin" was then conceived as a compilation of the finished tracks I worked for my first album, being these songs the origin of something. But "Origin" is also the beginning of something more, of a new era in my life, I wanna stop running away from compromises, but at the same time I want to see things from another point of view, a more relaxed and joyful view, in contrast to the pessimistic and even victimizing point of view that was contemplated for "Shakedown". Want an album that talks about the pandemic until some point? Then go listen to Evanescence's "The Bitter Truth". "Origin" represents my beginnings in the music world, but it also represents a change in my life, and it also represents a change for BlackJacketBear, which will be no longer my artist name for music, in favor of my overall artist name, "Ferdinand Anthony Dominick".
I thank you infinitely for your support during all this time, since the launching of "Gamegun" until "Origin", but it's time to leave some things behind. I hope you can understand me. And in case you're asking, no, "Origin" is NOT anyone's debut album, not BlackJacketBear's or Ferdinand A. Dominick's, it's just a demo album, pretending show how much I can compose, and how "Shakedown" was going to be structured if I had finally finished that album.

Mind Vortex are back! And they’re back with a vengeance… This duo have pulled it out the bag again and are ready to dent 2013.

Their new release ‘Alive/Arc’ is a game of two wholly different sides. Mind Vortex showcase their enviable range of skills: perfectly executed song-based composition AND outrageously huge, speaker splintering bass bombs.

‘Alive’ is up first. Striking up with a star-glazed synth and string hook that rises exponentially, we’re soon dropped into crisp guitar hooks and smooth vocals. As the synths and heated kicks re-join the mix, it’s instant anthem time with plenty of opportunities to raise a lighter or two. As the vibrant hook gets heavier and the song develops, we find the bass becoming more textured, bursting with dynamics and true sense of sonic sentiment.

Next up, ‘Arc’: A quintessential rave hustler, it opens with rich warm rush-worthy chords softly coerced you into a false sense of arm waving euphoria. This tune has such a beautiful emotion-caked intro and then BANG!: in they come with one of the most powerful pay-offs we’ve heard for ages. A murder of basslines vie for your attention; ducking and diving and weaving and bobbing among each other, each one as brutish as the next. From spine-melting electro-soul to turbo-charged bass shock-out at the flip of a switch, it’s production techniques like this that attracted Mind Vortex to us in the first place.

This release has two stunningly different vibes from one of the most exciting partnerships in drum & bass… With support from the likes of Andy C, Mistajam, Grooverider, Bailey, Crissy Criss, DJ Hype and Drumsound, the doors to the Mind Vortex fan club are well and truly open.
