Blackmahal Exits Hiatus of Baby Procreation to Release First of Duexes (Duet Remixes) with Crave You by Flight Facilities and the 'Dripping in Gold Bootleg Remix'

Years after going into a hiatus for band members to procreat, sometimes with each other but also with spouses, the Bay Area crew is back with some new music.

Today the band released a bootleg of a new concept callled Duexes, or unofficial remixes that feature Blackmahal lead vocalist Lal Singh Bhatti singing new original verses in Punjabi to match vocalists from some of the band's favorite tracks.

The first is Crave You by Australian band Flight Facilities. Blackmahal production team of Mark Pistel and Vijay Chattha worked with Lal Singh Bhatti to make a new version of the track, originally released seven years ago.

The track is a promo-only bootleg.

David Starfire is a world-renowned producer/multi-instrumentalist/DJ that is known for his signature “global-glitch-bass” sound. His niche is mixing world instruments and fusing them with modern beats. For his DJ sets, he often performs with percussion and various world instruments such as the phin (Thai lute) or the tumbi from India. His sound has brought him to perform at some of the most amazing places on earth, including the Pyramids of Giza, The Coliseum at Caesars Palace and Coachella.

BlackMahal is steeped in Old California, a Punjabi-American experience that started in the 1890s when the first Punjabi-Americans settled in the Great West and forged a new identity combining elements of Mexican and African-American influence.

BlackMahal also represents the new California feel: hippy hybrid hip-hop and hysterical hi-jinks. BlackMahal has rocked major concerts across North America including the 2010 Vancouver Olympics with features in Rolling Stone, Wired, The San Francisco Chronicle, and rotation on the BBC Radio 1.

The Past Always Lingers in the present is a song inspired by the book, Safar, A Child's Walk Through the Partition of India and Pakistan.

About Safar:
As a ten-year-old Sikh boy, the author and his family experienced the violence and trauma of migration to India after the British drew a line demarcating India and Pakistan. Here, Chattha discusses the historical and political factors leading up to Partition, examining leadership and cultural forces. He shares his family's migration story as well as those of three other Sikh children in the only published first-person account of the migration written from a Sikh child's perspective. In addition, he relates his visit to his home village in Pakistan years after his family was forced to journey east to settle in India. Finally, Chattha, a practicing neurologist for forty-one years, explores the neurobiology of violence and its link to religion.

About The Author of Safar

Amrik Singh Chattha was born September 1, 1937 in Chattha Chak No. 46, now located in Pakistan. His educational journey took him through Sikh National College, Qadian; Government Medical College, Patalia; and Governmental College, Amritsar. After he immigrated to the US, he continued his journey to Drake Memorial Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio; New York Medical College, New York City; Boston Children’s Hospital and Mass General Hospital, Boston -- both affiliated with Harvard Medical School, where he was a fellow in neurology. After five years in Boston training in neurology, he and his family moved to Weirton, West Virginia, where he practiced neurology for forty-one years, finally retiring in the San Francisco Bay Area.


About the music artist and producer SETI X

SETI X, also known as Mandeep Sethi, is a Los Angeles based MC building bridges between California and India. Referred to by GQ Magazine as "India's booming hip hop scene's new voice," SETI X is a veteran of rocking the microphone and raising consciousness -- he is currently working as a teaching artist within the LA County Juvenile Detention system, building emotional and cultural bonds with the youth within the Juvenile Halls, while facilitating songwriting and beat production workshops that allow students to reflect on their emotional and spiritual process while resonating their stories with the world.


For his work, SETI X received the 2018 Freedom Now Award, recognized by the Los Angeles Community Action Network for his activist work in the Skid Row Houseless Community of LA. SETI X is also a 2018 Recipient of the Schools Not Prisons Grant from the California Endowment for his program BEYOND BARS, where he will be working with young men who have been released from prison to create music and media that allows them to redirect their narrative and empower themselves.

Taj is a singer songwriter and this is her debut track. Made lovingly with her brother Amrik rapping and her sister doing backup vocals.
