Born atop the forgotten ruins of a crumbling city, a new civilization had emerged from the ruin wrought by demonkind upon the landscape that lay beneath them. Lead by their prophets of a new and powerful faith, the people of this civilization had risen up against the demon kings, wielding the magic of their divine allies as weapons with which to exorcise their being once more from the land. This war though hard fought had born fruit, and with the slaying of the final demon the people had rejoiced, celebrating their victories with monumental constructions to mark the beginning of a new and golden era. Foremost of these was the great cathedral that lay at the heart of their new city, built both as a space of worship for the populace and as an eternal ward of imprisonment for the souls of demonkind which could not be slain, forever condemning them to an incorporeal existence under the watchful eye of the divine.

Ages had passed since then, and time had once again ground its steady edge against the minds of the people and upon the stones and timbers that had supported the great city for so long. Ritual had been forgotten, and structures of greater grandeur had been built as the city expanded, relegating it’s once monumental cathedral to neglect. Thus it was that the falling of only a single candle had lit an aged timber in it’s great hall, in so doing weakening the ancient wards that had kept the demonic spirits at bay. Ever vigilant in their ceaseless desire to escape, the demon kings fanned this flame with their focused ire, nurturing it from a single mote into a overwhelming conflagration that tore at the runic chains that had bound them for so long. Before long, the roaring of the flames was augmented by the howls of demonic spirits set free from a millennia of imprisonment, their visages taking form in the fire as manifestations of their burning rage. As the inferno bellowed ever higher, the city cowered in fear, for it was clear that the time of DIVERGENCE had come once more.

EATBRAIN unleashes the full fury of their horde with the fourth installment in their DIVERGENCE compilation series, a gargantuan 26 track compilation filled to the brim with new tracks from EATBRAIN mainstays and newcomers alike. Brought together by their affinities for EATBRAIN’s unrestrained neurofunk sound, the artists within deliver a tour de force of the label’s guiding philosophy with ferocious basslines and terrifying sonic atmospheres alike, delivering a mammoth series of tracks set to inspire the fervor of the label’s horde in the months to come.

The puppeteer's workshop contained a mass of wooden limbs, woolen clothes, and linen masks that protruded oddly and gazed outwards from the shelves, greeting any visitor with a jarring sight upon their arrival. Upon closer inspection, their forms bore remarkably accurate representations of human appearance, a testament to the masterful craftsmanship of an artist who had devoted years of careful study to his craft. Indeed, the puppeteer’s creations entertained courts the continent over with their lifelike forms and were an item of distinct prestige within the collections of the nobility who owned them. Many clamored to purchase one of these most valuable marionettes, but the puppeteer was exceedingly choosy in the selection of his clientele. His storefront strangely advertised no price for his works, and only a select few were even allowed entry to his workshop to begin with. Rumors abounded of the rare goods that were required to purchase one of his creations - the hides of exotic beasts, dazzling gemstones, or spices from distant lands were all said to garner favor with the master artisan, and yet even those who showed up at his door with these items were often turned away. The truth of the matter was known only by the master himself, as was the secret to the expertise in his craft. 

Indeed, whilst he was fond of all things rare and beautiful, there was one thing that he valued more than all others, one thing that informed the basis of all of his works. A human soul, separated from it’s physical form at the TERMINAL STAGE of it’s death, would naturally seek a nearby host to possess, and with dark magics and unerring skill the master would trap these mournful souls within his marionettes, granting them an appearance of unparalleled vivacity. He, of course, would perform the separation himself, and found a ready stock of ingredients in the enemies, dissidents, and prisoners that filled the jails of his noble clients. Thus was his trade, puppeteer-executioner, and thus was the price for his work payable only in souls.

TNTKLZ make their EATBRAIN debut with TERMINAL STAGE, presenting a superb sonic show for the EATBRAIN horde alongside likeminded Neurofunk artisans Gancher & Ruin and Profuze across the EP’s four tracks.

Well, if youre Steve Aoki you re-enact a scene from Titanic, if youre David Guetta you play your cover of a well-known nursery rhyme, and if youre James Marvel and D&B Award nominee for Best MC, MC Mota you debut your brand new single live on stage.One of the D&B scenes most respected record labels and a firm Zane Lowe favourite, AudioPorn, snapped up James Marvel in 2013, thanks to his fresh take on the genre. 

Having remixed both Dub FX and Xilent to huge effect recently, causing riots on 170+ bpm dancefloors across the globe, now its James Marvels opportunity to destroy dancefloors with his own original music.And so the story of two artists going to war with emotionally bland music begins. Way Of The Warrior is not only D&B at its finest and most energetic, its also drum & bass at its most experimental. Fuelled with MC Motas off-key spitfire raps and James Marvels uncompromising, head-splitting bass, this is a battle weapon thats set to cause havoc when it is unleashed via AudioPorn on 11th September 2015.

Completing the single is Outlife, a distinctly different cut that showcases a mellower, softer side to James Marvels production. Undoubtedly, James Marvel is not a name to watch; with music this good hes a name to listen to.

Mefjus & Xtrah - Fever

Drawing you ever-deeper into their forthcoming LP ‘1x1’, Calyx & TeeBee’s next offering presents not only a landmark release, but also their unbridled integrity. The anticipation around this second album is only growing, having scored three Beatport numbers ones with their latest singles. On top of playing sold out shows at Brixton Academy, as well as festivals across the Atlantic and singles and producing remixes on major labels, it’s clear to see how they’ve met these benchmarks. 

‘Cloud 9’ sees Calyx back on vocals, adding a soulful depth which creates a narrative behind the music. Carefully drawn out lyrics create a cinematic edge, intimate and adding an 80’s new wave flare which is seldom seen within the genre. Layers gradually build underneath the track’s more humanistic elements, with a distorted bassline revving up and peddling the record forward. Ducking and diving between twisted beats, you’re launched through a segment of glitchy sonic, before stockier subs underpin the composition. A testament to an unbreakable production standards, it only alludes to another studio album set to make history.

The name ‘Panic Attack’ in itself is foreboding; implicating an explosive flipside, it delivers with an almighty kick and leaves you reeling. Snapping and kicking between hi-hats and low-mids, ‘Panic Attack’ is explosively aggressive from its roll out. Winding up on elongated note patterns and quaking percussion, the erratic break pushes you through a soundscape of madness. However, this is one methodically built… Keeping you hooked from start to finish with pounding drum loops. An incredible verification of their technical knowledge, this isn’t just the groundwork for a second studio album. It epitomises the solid, reverberating history the duo hold between them.

Phace & Noisia - Drawback

Alongside the delicious aggressiveness that made Audio so renowned, his ‘Beastmode’ LP cracks him open like you’ve never heard him before. Fiercely powerful, yet intricately different, each cut from his debut album on the Ram Records imprint packs a very different punch whilst hitting with the same fierceness and wealth of talent. 

‘Beastmode’ reflects all his output to date. Whether it’s the old-school flavor of virus, or the steppy-unapologetic riddims he’s served up for Ram, this record won’t leave you questioning who rules supreme over the genre’s murkier waters. 

Whether it’s the half-time, two stepping ‘Move it Along’ or the pulsing, snarling undertones of ‘Thud’, you’re blessed with a barrage full of fresh sonic assaults. ‘Thunder Ridge’ serves as the perfect opener, a brand new record with synth-laddered foreboding intro which pushes you below the surf. Tinkling hi-hats and a distorted LFO adds shockwaves throughout the mix, submerging you even deeper. Urgent, pulsing and nastily crafted, this is Audio at his most fearsome. 

On the other hand, ‘Rogue’ presents a clanking, runaway riddim that snaps its teeth with every break. Stacked between ominous build ups and jaunty samples, the second drop flairs out as angrily as the first, demonstrating Audio’s ingenious sound design. 

And flipping the switch once again is ‘Sovereign’, a nod to the producer’s roots and a track that gradually builds its presence throughout. Between warbling stabs and peddled kick drum, you’re drawn by the aural nerves. Elevating beat patterns set you up for another descent into madness, through a stringently tight composition. 

Featuring artists, such as drum & bass heavyweight Prolix, also take center stage. Their collaboration ‘Creatures’, alongside the revered lyricist Nuklear MC, adds a welcomed surprise. ‘Creatures’ delivers everything you’d expect and more; steroid-pumped subs, the dark overture of Nuklear and apocalyptic atmospherics. 

Also featured on its weighty track listing are singles ‘Make it Happen’, ‘Overdose’, ‘Drop it Human’ and ‘Shatterdome’. They were a precursor for what was to come, which signified one of the darkest, most uncompromising productions yet on Ram Records… In all of its twenty five years of history.
